Veteran Support Specialist

Job Summary Reporting directly to the Office Administrator, responsible for providing support to the Williamson County Veterans Services office by performing moderately complex administrative and case management duties. Examples of Work Performed Provides customer service to veterans and staff via telephone, email, and in person Screens telephone calls and refers callers to appropriate staff Prepares and files forms, reports, correspondence, and related documents Ensures filing systems are maintained and up to date Retrieves, sorts, and distributes incoming mail and fax documents Provides resources to veterans and their families Schedules appointments and sends confirmations Answers routine questions within the scope of position Performs case management duties including intake and case task assignment for Veteran Service Officers Enters and verifies data within applicable databases and systems Creates and maintains various reports, forms, worksheets, and informational materials Assists department staff and management with events and other clerical duties, as needed Communicates all changes and conflicts to supervisor Attends all meetings and trainings as required Performs special duties as assigned Organization Relationships Reports directly to: Office Administrator Direct Reports: No Physical Demands Position involves prolonged sitting at a workstation, visual examination of documents, reaching, walking, twisting, bending, standing, and occasional lifting/carrying Environmental Factors Work is primarily indoors in an air‑conditioned environment Travel between worksites, as required May require the use of a personal vehicle Irregular Hours Work outside of the normal office hours (Monday‑Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) may be required May be deemed essential personnel in the event of an emergency Regular attendance is required Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent One (1) year of clerical experience in a customer service role Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Preferred Qualifications Prior public sector experience and/or experience working with veterans Bilingual (Spanish) Knowledge of U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs law, regulations, and rulings Knowledge of veteran records and forms such as DD214 military discharge records, vital medical records, and military medals and awards Licenses and Certifications Valid Texas Driver’s license (Required within thirty (30) days of employment) Employment Testing Criminal background check: Yes Motor Vehicle Record check: Yes Drug screening: Yes Physical exam: No Psychological exam: No Additional: N/A Equal Opportunity Employment Williamson County is an Equal Opportunity Employer and complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA).
