Summary

This position is located in the DEA, Operations Division, Office of Training (OT), International Section (TRI), Mobile Unit A (OTIA).

This position primary purpose is to serve as Instructor and Course Developer in the field of foreign law enforcement training to include Firearms, Small Unit Tactics and Close Quarter Combat, Evasive Driving, Land Navigation, Personnel Recovery (PR), Survival Techniques and Systems, Human Intelligence, and Operational Planning.

As a your typical work assignments may include:

• Serves as a technical expert and presents materials in broad, and most times complex subject areas including, providing training to foreign law enforcement SIU in Firearms, close quarter combat (CQB), evasive driving, land navigation, evading/preventing isolating events, as well as surviving and coping with detention/hostage event by a foreign government and/or terrorist organization.
• Develops standards and guidelines for the technical accuracy and relevance in the course materials and adapt them to the locale of the course, students, and to adjust for unforeseen circumstances.
• Leads meetings with personnel from other organizations and programs to develop or evaluate complex programs or specific highly technical training based on needs and available resources.
• Plans and conducts studies that evaluate and predict program achievements and student performance and prepares interpretations of results and recommendations.
• Serves as a role player for course practical exercises.

Basic Qualification Requirements:

Education: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study education or a subject area related to the position to be filled;

OR

Experience: General Experience (for GS-5 positions): Experience that provided evidence of the ability to instruct students in the use of equipment, principles, or practices of the subject or occupation. This experience may have been gained as a teacher or instructor; in on-the-job supervision or instruction of subordinates or fellow workers; or in work involving application of the principles, practices, and techniques of the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled.

A. Have at least one full year of specialized experience that is at least equivalent to work performed at the GS-12 grade level. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Updating existing training materials, lesson plans, and practical exercises to support current operational requirements; 2) Compiling and analyzing evaluation data and preparing recommendations; 3) Assisting with course logistics, including student registration, training materials, travel coordination and facility arrangements; 4) Conducting lectures, demonstrations and hands-on exercises while ensuring student safety and adhere to training requirements; 5) Administering written and practical examinations, eluates student performance and providing constructive feedback to improve proficiency, and; 6) Delivering classroom and practical instruction in assigned subject areas including firearms, close quarter combat, evasive driving, land navigation, surveillance detection and related topics.
