License: Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice is required.
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
Must-Have: Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification is required.

The job summary entails responsibility and accountability for a group of patients during a designated shift.
Nursing care is prescribed based on the nursing process that is consistent with the medical plan of care and involves input from patients and significant others.
Collaboration with physicians and other health care team members is essential to coordinate patient care delivery for individuals of all ages.
Teaching and discharge planning needs are incorporated into the overall plan of care.
Certain aspects of patient care delivery are delegated to other nursing staff based on their current clinical competence and legal scope of practice.
This position is represented by a nursing association.


Education and Work Experience:
A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is preferred.
Acute care facility experience is preferred.


Licenses/Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor is required.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required at the time of hire.
Demonstrated competency in Dysrhythmia during orientation for all departments except for Obstetrics and NICU is required.
For emergency departments, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is required at the time of hire.
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification must be completed within one year of hire.
Demonstrated competency in IV Sedation must be achieved within six months of hire.


Essential Functions:
Utilizes the nursing process to assess patients.
Designs and implements an individualized plan of care for assigned patients.
Evaluates the effectiveness of the care plan and the patient's response.
Modifies the plan as necessary.
Considers age-specific, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients.
Collaborates with other disciplines to formulate the plan of care.
Applies knowledge of illnesses, injuries, diseases, and developmental stages to patient care delivery.
Utilizes pharmacology knowledge when preparing and administering medications and IV therapy.
Provides patient and family education in all phases of care delivery.
Assesses patient knowledge, plans appropriate learning activities, and evaluates effectiveness.
Responds to emergency patient situations or internal/external disasters following established protocols.
Oversees the delivery of patient care and challenges errors of others to ensure patient safety.
Reports observations, reactions, and problems regarding patients in a timely manner.
Demonstrates responsibility for problem-solving and clinical decision-making on shift.
Ensures continuity of care by processing and following through on physician orders.
Demonstrates an ability to set appropriate priorities in providing patient care and responds to changes in workload.
Acts as the patient advocate, ensuring patient rights are preserved.
Demonstrates knowledge of job descriptions and appropriately delegates tasks based on clinical competence.
Practices registered nursing according to the Nurse Practice Act.
Maintains awareness of professional responsibilities and legal scope of practice.
Utilizes effective communication skills with patients, families, staff, and physicians.
Documents assessments, nursing interventions, and care provided.
Performs technical aspects of patient care according to established policies and procedures.
Prepares and administers medications and IVs with attention to age-specific needs.
Performs emergency procedures and assesses patient response.
Demonstrates safe use of equipment.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
