Director of Music Ministry Job Description Purpose: This policy addresses the position of Director of Music Ministry at Epiphany Lutheran Church. Statement: Epiphany uses a variety of worship and music styles to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all. Scope: All music and worship experiences at Epiphany Lutheran Church. Procedure Qualifications Strong worship planning and implementation skills Creative skills in multiple musical genre Musical expertise in practice, motivation, directing and teaching Administrative skills to form cohesive musical ensembles Experience creating and administering an annual music budget Primary Duties Administer the music ministries of Epiphany Lutheran Church. Plan and implement diverse music in accord with the various worship assemblies. Serve as principal organist/pianist to lead congregational singing. Implement music selections that responsibly balance Lutheran identity, history, theology, and culture. Serve as director for and assist, administer, and access the contributions of additional ensembles which include but are not limited to: Adult Choir Orchestra Handbells Contemporary Worship Band Choral groups Vocal ensembles Soloists/Instrumentalists Instrumental ensembles Provide insight into the music/worship practices of Epiphany Lutheran Church and implement changes in consultation with the Senior Pastor. Supervise any additional music employees of Epiphany Lutheran Church. Work within financial restrictions for necessary equipment and supplies for the Music Ministry of the congregation Attend regular staff meetings Plan the worship structure of the different services Plan and provide music for special events (weddings, funerals, etc.) Additional Duties At the discretion of the Senior Pastor, provide select opportunities for education regarding music and worship. Work with sound/AV personnel to evaluate/implement necessary changes. Work closely with Epiphany’s communication/clerical staff for the publication of worship materials. Work with youth ministries of Epiphany to nurture future musicians. Provide oversight into the maintenance of the organ, piano, and keyboards. As the opportunity arises, work together with the broader Lutheran community, including pastors and musicians. Actively recruit and invite people to participate in the various music ministries. Reporting Relationship Reports directly to the Senior Pastor. Upon invitation, provides reports to the Board of Elders. Upon invitation, provides reports to the Leadership Council. Other duties and assignments may be added as needed. This policy may be reviewed and modified as needed by the Senior Pastor.
