Registered Nurse (RN) - Staffing Office/Float Pool, (Cardiac/PCU/Stepdown) PRN, Days

The Registered Nurse (RN) assumes the accountability and responsibility as a professional nurse for providing total, comprehensive, continuous, and patient-centered care for an assigned group of patients. The RN is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The RN’s duties include, but not limited to the following: Directing and coordinating all nursing care for patients based on established clinical practice standards. Collaborating with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. Supporting the organization’s vision, mission and values. Utilizing knowledge of patient’s age and cultural diversity into the provision of patient care. Participating in and accepting responsibility for functions delegated to the team. Provides competent, compassionate patient- and family-centered nursing care based on scientific principles and the use of the nursing process and interdisciplinary teamwork. Demonstrates the Caring Theory principles and provides and maintains a therapeutic environment for patients and families. Articulates the professional nursing role to the patient, family and health team members. Identifies, facilitates, and evaluates outcomes of nursing care for an individual patient or group of patients. Demonstrates critical thinking in the provision and coordination of patient care. Directs the coordination of care across settings and among caregivers, including oversight of licensed and unlicensed personnel in any assigned or delegated tasks. Coordinates involvement of the patient, family and health team members in patient care, including patient/family teaching and discharge planning. Communicates and coordinates the plan of care and other pertinent information to/from other health care team members. Promotes continuity of care through effective hand-offs. Helps define standards of excellence for patient care; participates in improvement of patient care services in a cost-effective way. Provides care appropriate to age group of patients and specific functions on assigned unit(s) as described in the unit’s Scope of Service. Participates in, contributes to and integrates the performance improvement into care delivery and participates in quality improvement activities. Such activities may include: exhibits compliance with regulatory and quality and safety requirements. Collaborates with other professionals and directs nonprofessional nursing personnel in maintaining recognized standards. Participates in orientation of new permanent and temporary staff members. Appropriately utilizes nursing resources. Interprets hospital and departmental policies and procedures to nurses and other health team members. Participates in daily operational activities necessary for safe patient/staff environment. Provides input to the Nurse Manager regarding unit needs. Participates in unit, departmental and hospital committees for formulation of nursing and hospital policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned. Leadership and Professional Development: Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills based on current nursing education practices. Uses the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements (ANA 2001) to guide practice. Demonstrates a commitment to continuous, lifelong learning for self and others. Teaches others to succeed by mentoring and other strategies, indicates readiness to precept, and serves as a unit preceptor for externs, nursing students, and new RNs. Inspires loyalty through valuing of people as the most precious asset in an organization. Serves in key roles in the work setting by participating on committees, councils, and administrative teams. Promotes advancement of the profession through participation in professional organizations. Demonstrates leadership by participating in Advancing Clinical Excellence (ACE) program and performing at ACE level expectations in the unit and hospital-wide. Represents a positive image of nursing to the community and promotes nursing as a caring, meaningful, valued, lifelong profession with varied career opportunities. Required Physical Requirements: Constant (67-100% of workday) walking, standing, use of arms and hands; frequent (34-66% of workday) bending, stooping, kneeling, and squatting; ability to lift 35 lbs.; ability to push and pull 20 lbs.; auditory and visual skills to include color determination; ability to work in confined spaces; ability to reach above/overhead. Mental Requirements: Possesses critical thinking and analytical skills. Ability to multi-task. Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team. Capacity to cope with difficult situations. Ability to tolerate irregular hours including evenings, nights, and weekends. Environmental Requirements and Exposure Hazards: Potential risk of exposure to radiation and toxic chemicals.
