Controller

Position Summary The primary functions of a Controller are to provide oversight and continuous improvement of the accounting activities for their division. This requires traveling to different locations to conduct reviews of accounting activities and operational processes that affect accounting. Duties & Responsibilities Oversee, review, and improve the overall accounting functions of the division. Support, train, and develop new employees within the division. Partner with yard management by providing analysis and advice to support business decisions. Review, implement, and improve internal controls, company policy, and assist in monitoring adherence. Verify and reconcile account balances. Perform analytical review of financial statements to ensure integrity. Conduct monthly and quarterly financial and operational reviews of subsidiaries in accordance with GAAP and company guidelines. Assist with mergers and acquisitions, including closing journal entries, blending of balance sheets, and onsite pre‑merger inventory. Prepare and review year‑end work papers and client assistance packages for external auditors. Prepare and review monthly journal entries in the financial statement closing process. Provide support for tax returns in accordance with federal and state laws. Train new accountants at the subsidiary level in all aspects of financial and accounting reporting. Provide training to subsidiary personnel on back‑office functions and accounting software such as Concur, Cadency, and OneStream. Act as liaison between the division and the director of the department regarding all GMS initiatives. Assist in the preparation of the annual budget. Coordinate and support sales and use tax audits, and property tax audits. Assist in the preparation of year‑end audit work papers for external auditors. Interact with region and subsidiary managers using written and oral communication skills. Assist with special projects as needed. Create reports based on the needs of each region, regional VP, manager, etc. Perform inventory observations and assistance with routine inventory counts. Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Accounting or Finance. Minimum 5‑7 years of related work experience. Travel to multiple locations. CPA is preferred. Strong Microsoft Office skills. Demonstrated knowledge of general accounting, financial statements, SOX controls, and overall accounting procedures. Physical Requirements Remain in a stationary position in an office environment 80% of the time. Move around inside the office to access files and office machinery. Operate basic office machinery. Manage stress based on deadlines and ongoing projects. Multi‑task effectively. Receive and analyze information. Communicate solutions quickly if problems occur. Demonstrate high degree of sound judgment and initiative. Salary & Benefits The base salary for this position typically falls within the range of $124,800.00 to $168,300.00 annually. Starting wage may vary based on location, education, training, and experience.
