About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Stroke Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: Active nurse license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: PCU-level RN experience NIHSS experience Central venous line management and placement Foley catheter management Tube feeding via NGT or PEG Arterial line management Diabetes management Drip titration (Levophed preferred, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Insulin) Description: The position is for a registered nurse in a stroke care unit. The unit consists of 6 patient beds. Patient types include CVA and TIA. Adequate personal protective equipment is provided. The nurse-patient ratio is 1:3, and CNA ratio is 1:6. Travelers must pass an EKG competency exam as part of compliance. Charge nurses will take patient assignments based on staffing. There is no phlebotomy on the unit. A vascular access team is available for PICC and midline placement. Resource nurses are present. Respiratory therapists, hospitalists, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy are available 24/7. The EMR system used is Meditech Expanse. IV pumps are Alaris. Medication dispensing system is Pyxis. Staff may float to stepdown or med-surg units. Scheduling includes every other weekend rotation. Staff may work four days one week and three days the next week. Requests for time off can be up to 7 days. A maximum of one weekend of time off can be requested per 13-week contract. Working 2 or 3 major holidays is expected. Scrub color is pewter, with acceptable t-shirt colors being gray, white, or black. Professionalism is a mandatory requirement; cell phone usage in patient care areas is not permitted, earbuds cannot be worn, and eating at the desk is not allowed.
