Duties

The incumbent social worker is responsible for providing appropriate supervision or consultation for 3 or more social workers or student trainees assigned to him/her.

Provides consultation, guidance and expertise to community organizations regarding Veteran and caregiver specific issues and needs.

Responsible for providing direct clinical and programmatic supervision to Social Work Service (SWS) GS-11 social workers in the specific program.

Develops a data monitoring system to measure the efficacy of the assigned program.

Serves as a liaison between the VA and community agencies.

Possesses an ability to transmit advanced concepts of social work practice to establish the kind of working relationships with supervisees which is conducive to their learning in the intangible areas of self-awareness, as well as the objective and constructive use of self in relation to dealing with difficult and disturbed patients.

Responsible for providing help to subordinate staff in their management of their assigned units, identifying needs in-practice through review of charts and supervisory conferences.

Participate in Service, NYHHS, VISN, VACO, and/or community-based task forces.

Develops and fosters relationships with community partners to assist with system navigation, maintain collaboration and coordinate services. Provides outreach presentations to community social service agencies, military Guard and Reserve units, Veteran Service organizations and other groups on VA caregiver benefits, programs and services.

Collects, analyzes, and reports program data to local management, VISN, and National Program offices, Care Management and Social Work Service, Office of Patient Care Services. Evaluates program progress and outcomes and utilizes data to continuously modify and improve the program and processes.

Work Schedule

8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday

Pay

Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

Paid Time Off

37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.

Parental Leave

After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy

After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66

Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
