Tire Mechanic

Position Summary Supports the fleet maintenance operations by installing and inspecting tires and rims on tractor-trailers. Major Tasks and Responsibilities Removes and installs tire and rim assemblies from class 6, 7, and 8 trucks, trailers, and converter dollies. Uses hydraulic jacks and stands to gain access to the unit and replace tire assemblies. Operates, lifts, moves, and stores specialized equipment to maintain, inspect, and repair tires or rims. Repairs tires outside the maintenance facility utilizing a service truck. Inspects tires for wear, damage, and proper inflation. Disposes of old tires in compliance with environmental regulations. Mounts and dismounts tires or rims using specialized tire machines. Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age. High school diploma or GED. Authorized to work in the United States. Must provide and maintain personal maintenance tools. Read, write, communicate and comprehend the English language in order to perform the various tasks of the job, including but not limited to: converse with co‑workers and members of the general public; understand oral and written instructions as well as governmental regulations; respond to questions and inquiries from management and government representatives; and accurately review and complete various documents, reports and records required of the position. Preferred Qualifications 2 years of tire mechanic experience. Proficiency in diagnostic software. Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods. Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling or carrying of tools, parts and equipment up to 100 pounds. Regular use of hands and arms for handling tools, reaching overhead, and working in tight spaces. Ability to climb on, under and around large trucks and equipment safely. Adequate vision (with or without correction) to read gauges, manuals and perform detailed inspections. Adequate hearing (with or without aids) to detect equipment sounds, communicate and follow safety signals. Pay Rate $26.55 - $30.40 per hour, based on experience.
