Sport Supervisor

Position Purpose / Important Application Information The Sport Supervisor position is responsible for observing and monitoring sports leagues and keeping accurate league records. This position also provides routine field preparation and maintenance. Recreation staff have the primary responsibility of ensuring the safety of program participants. The availability of work hours for this position will be determined by one or all of the following factors: program length, weather, and budget. Hours for this position will generally be Monday through Friday from 5:45 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. and Sundays from 1:45 p.m. to 9 p.m. The full salary range for this position is stated above. The starting pay range depends on each candidate's qualifications and experience. General Competencies Demonstrate knowledge of current guest service and business practices, using office equipment and computer software Demonstrate excellent skills in guest/host relations Demonstrate a working knowledge of recreation operations and philosophy Effectively handle emergencies such as fire alarms and injuries Follow established guidelines concerning facility operations, such as usage policies, emergency procedures Manage positive, courteous relationships with patrons and work with them in a respectful manner that reflects positively on the City and the program Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co‑workers and other City staff Act in a leadership role, and direct and supervise a variety of staff Make decisions recognizing established procedures and practices, and use resourcefulness and tact in meeting new situations and/or problems All employees are expected to provide excellent customer service, communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, display professionalism and integrity, work efficiently, effectively, and accurately, work independently and as part of a team, take initiative, solve problems, display good judgment, take ownership for delivering a high‑quality product or service, have regular and punctual attendance, and effectively handle emergencies. Job Specific Functions Observes and monitors various sports leagues to ensure safety and discipline at facilities Assists with crowd control Effectively handles emergencies such as fire alarms and injuries Provides excellent guest service to participants and spectators Provides routine athletic field cleaning and maintenance, such as ball field preparation and field painting Tracks team statistics and scores Responsible for maintenance, cleaning, and inventory of recreation equipment Completes accurate transactions (cash, check, credit card, gift card) and reconciles at the end of the shift Safely operates vehicles and equipment Maintains regular and punctual attendance Other Duties and Responsibilities Assists with the set‑up and break‑down of various equipment related to the sport being played Position Requirements / Working Conditions / Pre‑employment Requirements Education, Experience, Skills, Formal Training, Licenses, and Certifications Required: Must be at least 18 years of age Graduation from high school or GED First Aid, CPR, and AED certification within 30 days of hire Valid driver’s license and safe driving record Preferred: Experience supervising athletic events in a recreational or educational setting Experience playing and/or coaching sports Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills may be considered. Physical Requirements Frequently sit, stand, and walk through a multi‑level facility Occasionally squat, bend, kneel, twist, climb, balance, and reach overhead Occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds Frequently use hands and fingers for fine manipulation; occasionally use a light and firm grasp Frequently see objects up close for office tasks and far away to observe activity for safety hazards or problems Constantly use hearing to interact with guests and staff and recognize trouble outside of view Occasionally use sufficient physical strength, stamina, and agility to perform emergency work in various capacities Working Conditions Work is constantly performed outdoors with occasional indoor activity. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including summer sun and temperatures that may exceed 100 degrees, and winter conditions with snow and freezing temperatures. Work is performed at a high‑public‑use, multi‑level recreation facility, where loud noise and multiple events and activities occurring simultaneously may cause a distraction. Required Materials and Equipment Sports and recreation equipment, calculators, telephones, PA systems, gym floor covers, hand tools, AED, gloves, and pocket masks. May be required to operate all‑terrain vehicles (ATVs), ½ ton trucks, lawn mowers, edgers, small hand tools such as hammers, measuring tape, screw drivers, and power tools. Pre‑employment Requirements Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and pass a criminal background check, a reference check, and a substance screen.
