Substitute Bus Attendant

Scope of Responsibilities:

Able to relate to children of differing ages or cognitive level as well as with students with special needs.
Communicate school bus ridership rules and maintain orderly behavior and assist students while on the bus.
Assist driver in safe loading and unloading of students; training students in proper crossing techniques in cooperation with the driver.
Physically assist children on and off the bus as necessary.
Ensure all students who require specialized securement are properly secured in a 5-point harness, safety vest, or appropriate mobility device during transport.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Be willing to communicate with classroom aides, teachers, principals, and parents concerning student behavior as appropriate.
Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures.
Able to assist driver in thorough pre-trip, post-trip inspection, checking the bus for items left behind and sleeping students.
