Working location This is a remote role; our leadership team are located across the US and the UK. With physical offices in York, PA, Fort Lauderdale, and London. What you'll be doing: Partner closely with the CEO and executive leadership team to shape and execute engineering strategy aligned to Sapio’s product and commercial growth plans Provide leadership and mentorship across engineering managers, technical leads, and senior engineers, helping develop future leaders within the organisation Guide architectural direction and technical decision-making to ensure platform scalability, maintainability, and long-term product integrity Provide structured oversight of engineering delivery, including resource planning, prioritisation, release planning, and timeline management to ensure predictable, high-quality execution. Help mature engineering processes, delivery predictability, and operational excellence while maintaining the agility expected within a scale-up environment Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, AI, Solutions, and Commercial teams to ensure engineering outcomes are aligned with customer and market needs Support the continued evolution of our low-code / no-code platform and integration of AI-driven capabilities into our product ecosystem Strengthen engineering governance, quality standards, and security posture as the organisation continues to scale globally Provide executive-level technical insight to support business planning, investment decisions, and organisational growth Champion a collaborative, transparent engineering culture that balances innovation with accountability Ensure engineering teams remain focused on delivering measurable customer value rather than purely technical output What we are looking for: A strong technical foundation, having started your career as a software engineer before progressing into senior engineering leadership roles Proven experience leading engineering organisations within SaaS scale-ups, ideally within private equity-backed or high-growth environments Act as a credible and compelling technical ambassador for Sapio, confidently engaging customers, partners, and prospects to articulate our engineering vision, product roadmap, and platform direction with clarity and authority. Demonstrated ability to operate effectively between executive leadership and hands-on engineering teams, acting as a trusted translator between business strategy and technical execution Experience leading well-established engineering teams, who are product SMEs A pragmatic and measured leadership style, with the ability to build on existing strengths while thoughtfully evolving engineering maturity Strong understanding of modern software architecture, cloud-native platforms, and scalable enterprise software development Experience balancing long-term technical strategy with near-term delivery commitments Exceptional stakeholder management skills, including comfort working directly with board-level and executive leadership A leadership approach that emphasizes coaching, mentorship, and empowerment, complemented by the ability to provide decisive, direct management when context and urgency require it. Genuine enthusiasm for building technology that delivers meaningful real-world impact It's a bonus if you have the following: Experience working with low-code / no-code platforms or highly configurable enterprise software products Exposure to AI/machine learning-enabled product development or data-driven platform ecosystems Experience working in regulated or scientifically complex domains such as life sciences, healthcare, or laboratory informatics Familiarity with LIMS, ELN, or broader scientific data management platforms Experience supporting post-investment growth within private equity environments Background working within customer-driven product organisations where engineering teams collaborate closely with commercial and delivery functions Experience helping organisations scale internationally across multiple regions and time zones What We Offer At Sapio Sciences, we recognise that our people are our greatest strength.
