Opioid Prevention Specialist (Open Until Filled)

Job TitleOpioid Prevention SpecialistDepartmentHealth & Prevention DepartmentDivisionHealth & Community ServicesSupervisorSubstance Abuse Program (SAP) CoordinatorPosition OverviewUnder direct supervision of the SAP Coordinator, the Opioid Prevention Specialist will be responsible for the planning, organization, and implementation of the Tribal Opioid Response (TOR) grant through prevention and cultural activities.*The position is dependent on TOR federal funding; currently until September 29, 2029*.Essential FunctionsCoordinate community-based prevention programs, services and cultural activities, utilizing both internal and external resources.Identify and maintain community resources useful for program services and activities and establish a community network.Research and implement current evidenced-based practices and techniques in the field of opioid prevention and recovery and create/edit/maintain opioid training manuals/literature/education materials re for the general public.Prepare purchase orders, check requests, and other procurement activities.Provide transportation to and from designed treatment programs, meetings, seminars, and other alcohol and drug abuse activities designed to help the client abstain from substance abuse.Assist in the maintenance of accurate client files, program files, and other necessary documents.Attend training to enhance job performance.Maintain confidentiality of clients and client records.Contribute to a team effort and accomplish related results as required.Performs other duties, as assigned and within the scope of the positionEducationalRequirementsMinimum: Associates Degree in Sociology, Counseling, Social Work, or related field.Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, Counseling, Social Work, or related field;Experience RequirementsMinimum: One (1) year of experience working in the realm of substance misuse and abuse; community outreach; and Native communities.Preferred: Three (3) years of experience working in the realm of substance misuse and abuse with Native Americans within the Pawnee service area.Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesComputer:Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Internet Explorer, etc.Proficiency in the proper use of and operation of standard office equipment.Communication:Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with co-workers, medical and legal professionals, Indian Health Service, representatives of law enforcement, social services agencies, and other outside agencies.Ability to communicate effectively with program clientele, the general public, tribal members, Pawnee Nation employees, and other concerned parties.Must possess strong administrative, public relations, and communications skills.Skilled in the use of business communications (proper spelling/grammar).Skilled in the use of business arithmetic (accounting, etc.).Ability to organize and conduct community education meetings.Miscellaneous:Ability to pass a background screening.Must possess the ability to provide clients with compassionate care respective of Native American customs, traditions, and beliefs.Must demonstrate a basic understanding of clients’ rights and responsibilities, including familiarity with confidentiality requirements.Must be able to conduct research, analyze information, and interpret data.Must possess the ability to analyze situations and adopt appropriate courses of action.Must possess the ability to be persuasive and tactful in controversial situations.Must possess the ability to meet deadlines, adapt to changing priorities, and work well under pressure.Must demonstrate strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize.Must possess knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and requirements.Must possess the ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.Must be available to work flexible work hours, which may vary beyond the standard 8am-5pm work schedule.Must be available for work-related travel.Must maintain confidentiality.Must work independently.Must attend training, as required by the position.Must have a valid Oklahoma drivers’ license and be insurable with Pawnee Nation’s insurance carrier.Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee occasionally is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.Work EnvironmentWork is generally performed in an office setting with a moderate noise level. Evening and/or weekend work is often required. Occasions may arise requiring work outdoors where exposure to natural weather conditions may occur. There is regular interaction with the public, other agencies, and employees. Tight time constraints and multiple demands from several people are common.
