LJB Inc. is seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer to help grow our Water Resources Practice in North Carolina. This role supports a varied client base and is based in Charlotte, Raleigh, or Kernersville, NC, with remote or hybrid options available for candidates located in North Carolina. The ideal candidate brings 8+ years of progressive water resources engineering experience, strong technical judgment, and the ability to lead projects, manage client relationships, and mentor junior staff. This person is comfortable working independently, collaborating across disciplines, and delivering high-quality solutions in a fast-paced environment. Senior Water Resources Engineer Essential Functions Lead the planning and design of a wide range of water resources and civil infrastructure projects, including: Stream and wetland restoration Dam remediation FEMA floodplain analyses and permitting (No-Rise, LOMR, CLOMR) Culvert and bridge replacement Stormwater planning and design Watershed studies and asset management Site/civil development and public utility design Programmatic engineering support Manage and deliver engineering projects from concept development through final design, permitting, and construction support. Oversee project scope, schedule, and budget, ensuring high-quality and timely deliverables. Interface with clients, stakeholders, and public agencies to build and maintain strong professional relationships. Collaborate with internal teams, including CAD designers, EITs, and GIS technicians, to develop comprehensive engineering solutions. Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior staff. Additional Responsibilities Travel occasionally to client sites across the U.S. as needed. Perform additional duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Senior Water Resources Engineer Essential Credentials Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in water resources. PE license required, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire. Minimum of 8 years of relevant engineering experience. Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, or equivalent software. Strong background in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling (2D modeling experience preferred). Knowledge of local, state, and federal stormwater management regulations. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in Water Resources. Familiarity with GIS tools and applications. Experience with NCDOT standards and hydraulic-related pre-qualifications. Demonstrated client/project management experience. Core Skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong leadership, time management, and organizational abilities. Ability to solve complex engineering challenges with sound judgment and creativity.
