Land Surveyor
Basic Function: Perform and oversee professional land surveying services for a variety of projects while ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and professional standards. Provide technical expertise and guidance to survey field and office staff, coordinate surveying activities with project teams and clients, and prepare, review, and certify survey documents as permitted under applicable state licensure requirements.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities Included but not limited to:
- Perform and oversee boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, construction, subdivision, easement, right-of-way, and other land surveying services.
- Oversee professional surveying work and prepare, review, and certify surveys, plats, legal descriptions, and related documents in accordance with applicable licensure requirements.
- Research and analyze deeds, plats, easements, field data, public records, and other information necessary to establish property boundaries and survey requirements.
- Review survey calculations, drawings, and deliverables for accuracy, quality, and compliance with applicable standards.
- Plan and coordinate survey activities and provide technical direction and mentorship to field and office staff.
- Coordinate project scope, schedules, budgets, and deliverables with clients, project teams, contractors, and government agencies.
- Maintain knowledge of applicable surveying laws, regulations, standards, and industry practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of professional land surveying principles, practices, boundary law, and applicable standards.
- Ability to interpret survey data, plans, plats, deeds, legal descriptions, and other technical documents.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, problem-solving, organizational, and project coordination skills.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to provide technical direction and mentorship to survey personnel.
- Proficiency with surveying equipment and technology; working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and related software preferred.
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Associate or bachelor's degree in surveying or related field a plus
- 7+ years of survey related experience with at least 2 years of experience in project management and staff supervision
Licensure/Certification
- Current Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) or equivalent state land surveyor licensure required.
- Ability to obtain additional state licensure may be required based on project and office needs.
- Valid driver's license required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform work in both office and field environments as required.
- Ability to safely operate or work around surveying equipment and perform field-related activities as necessary.
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods and navigate uneven, rough, or undeveloped terrain.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and perform other physical activities associated with field surveying.
- Ability to lift, carry, and transport survey equipment and materials weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and direct sunlight.
- Ability to travel to project sites and operate a motor vehicle as required.
