Applied Data & Modeling Intern

This is a remote position. However, as a program requirement, ALL intern candidates must be located in San Antonio for the duration of the internship, regardless of remote status. Additionally, due to financial restrictions tied to University funding through the VMS program, Trinity University students will be given priority consideration for this position.

About the Company Dbuntu is a systems and intelligence company building data-driven infrastructure for agricultural trade and risk management in emerging markets. Our flagship platform, Ai4Ag™ is an internal data and AI engine that aggregates farm-level, weather, and market data to generate decision-support intelligence. These insights inform trade execution and risk management frameworks used by affiliated operating entities (i.e. MerchantX by Bunyonyi Distributors FZ-LLC & AfricaX Trading, LLC). Dbuntu focuses on turning complex, fragmented data into practical, usable systems.

Role Overview This internship is designed for a student with strong quantitative instincts who wants hands-on experience working with real-world data. The intern will help operationalize the Ai4Ag™ data engine by:

• Structuring agricultural and weather data
• Building milk & crop yield prediction models
• Comparing predictions against actual outcomes
• Building dashboards that support real decision-making

This is an applied data and modeling role, not a theoretical research or strategy role. Intern Responsibilities:

• Data Aggregation & Cleaning
• Yield Prediction Modeling
• Model Validation
• Dashboard Development
• Process Documentation

Skills & Qualifications Required:

• Strong proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets
• Comfort with: Basic statistics, Regression and forecasting concepts, Scenario analysis
• Ability to work independently and manage tasks
• Interest in agriculture, climate, or data-driven decision-making

Preferred (Not Required):

• Python or R for data analysis
• Experience with dashboards or data visualization tools
• Exposure to agriculture, economics, or commodity markets

Learning Outcomes By the end of the internship, the intern will have:

• Built and validated a working yield prediction model
• Designed a functional decision-support dashboard
• Learned how to work with messy, real-world datasets
• Gained exposure to agricultural markets and climate risk
• Produced tangible outputs suitable for a portfolio or resume

• Direct mentorship from the founder of Dbuntu
• Weekly check-ins focused on problem-solving and learning
• Guidance on translating data into actionable insights
• Exposure to how data informs real trade and risk decisions

4 Deliverables By the end of the internship:

• Cleaned and structured datasets
• A documented yield prediction model
• A yield intelligence dashboard
• A written process guide for future replication
