School Psychologist

School Physician, Bureau of School HealthThe Office of School Health (OSH) is a joint program of the Department of Education and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, responsible for promoting the health of 1.3 million school-aged children in approximately 1,800 public and non-public schools across New York City. OSH provides mandated clinical services, public health initiatives, chronic disease management, reproductive health care, and case management to ensure that students are healthy and ready to learn. Physicians in OSH also review medical accommodations, respond to public health emergencies, and coordinate with community providers to support the health and safety of students.Duties will include but are not limited to:Work within the mandates, policies and protocols of the Office of School HealthPerform mandated physical examinations (new Admissions exams, Sports Physicals, and Working Papers Physicals)Improve the health of students through case management chronic diseases, preventative health screening and counseling, health education and referralsDevelop relationships with community health providers in order to optimize medical management of students with health issuesAttend to health needs and medical issues specific of all students in a designated school communityUtilize the Automated Student Health record (ASHR) to maintain accurate student health recordsComplete medical accommodations reviews efficiently, using sound clinical judgement, coordinating services when appropriateParticipate in meetings concerning student medical needs at schoolsImplement initiatives that promote positive health behaviorsSupport the development of School educational and prevention programs specifically designed to promote the health and wellness of studentsProvide clinical assistance in the event of an environmental or communicable disease occurrenceProvide health education/presentations to school staff, community organization, parents, or studentsSupport all medical initiatives established by the office of School Health, e.g. Asthma, Reproductive health, Obesity, and Diabetes programs and protocolsDevelop and maintain professional relationship and communicate effectively within the school community and community-based organizationsKeep abreast of health management policy statements and emerging clinical research related to school healthParticipate in OSH research and quality improvement activitiesAttend all mandated DOHMH and OSH trainingsWhy you should work for us:Benefits: City employees are entitled to unmatched benefits such as: a premium-free health insurance plan that saves employees over $10K annually, per a 2024 assessment.
