What We Can Achieve Together:

The Director of Individual Giving oversees the individual fundraising team and is responsible for developing and implementing the individual giving strategy as part of the annual BU fundraising strategy. They mentor fundraising staff ensuring a robust pipeline of PG/MG prospects, discovery work, and planned giving. The Director of Individual Giving will establish metrics for each fundraiser, be held accountable to their team's fundraising metrics/goals and will keep their direct reports accountable to their individual and team fundraising metrics/goals. They work with the Director of Philanthropy Operations to establish and track fundraising metrics/measures, and lead indicators of progress and success including PbD Continuum and the Pipeline Expansion Program (and others in the future). The Director of Individual Giving is responsible for ensuring programmatic work is a collaborative and well-integrated effort within philanthropy and across TNC.

The Director of Individual Giving provides advice, guidance, and oversees training programs related to the major gift fundraising functions, including donor visits with their direct reports. They will lead diverse activities, develop complex processes, project outcomes, and initiate solutions to improve effectiveness. They will serve as team leader for the enhancement of systems and tools used by the team, including new AI tools per TNC guidance. The Director leverages constructive and effective relationships with a wide range of people, including senior management, public and private sector colleagues, and partners including financial/legal advisors. They reinforce consistency in the organization's policies and procedures, provide direction related to their relevant field(s)

The Director of Individual Giving understands and applies complex principles of developing donor strategies and builds strong relationships with a small portfolio (15-30) of new and current donors and prospects. They will identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospects/donors and are responsible for achieving their individual fundraising metrics as set annually with the Director of Philanthropy. The Director of Individual Giving will work with BU leadership as a moves manager as appropriate and manage assigned trustee relationships and/or volunteer engagement. They will be responsible for direct asks to both global and local priorities to meet funding needs. They discuss assets proficiently and listen for opportunities for gifts of assets or other non-cash gifts, such as planned gifts and trade lands. They will incorporate blended gifts and gifts of assets in proposals/concepts to donors. They are capable of discussing the priorities of the Conservancy. They will work across chapters and programs and manage a referral network. They understand organizational budgets and are proficient in utilizing this knowledge to build proposal budgets. The Director of Individual Giving will have knowledge of charitable giving and Donor Advised Funds and be able to discuss charitable options with donors. They will be required to use the Conservancy's donor database.

Responsibilities & Scope

Broad management responsibility for three or more professional fundraising staff, including training, professional development, establishing clear directions, setting "stretch" objectives, and overseeing the execution of day-to-day work to fulfill the annual fundraising plan.
  • Apply critical and strategic thinking in developing a major gift strategy to substantially increase Florida's MG fundraising pipeline, solicitations of gifts, and overall fundraising levels year after year.
  • Apply creativity and innovation to fundraising as we work to build a more financially and philanthropically sustainable BU.
  • Ensure that all MG fundraisers have robust portfolios, measurable metrics, are completing the "blocking and tackling" of MG fundraising.
  • Oversee and manage the planned giving strategy for the Florida BU.
  • Work to increase flexible funding and unrestrictive giving with the Florida BU, regionally and globally.
  • Mentor and train staff in discovery, pipeline building, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies - towards a goal of life-long donor engagement.
  • Work with the Director of Philanthropy Operations to ensure donor messaging, engagement, events, etc. fulfill the MG fundraising goals and objectives as part of the annual fundraising plan and strategy.
  • Commit actions and resources in a way that affects public image and binds the organization financially or legally.
  • Develop and administer budget, evaluate results and develop corrective strategies as needed.
  • Ensure that programmatic commitments, TNC policies and procedures, and financial standards are met and managed for ethical compliance.
  • Implement and direct multiple projects, directing work of staff, setting deadlines, and ensuring accountability.
  • Lead and manage new programs/initiatives that will ensure department and organization-wide goals and strategies are achieved.
  • Maintain confidentiality of frequently sensitive and emotionally charged information.
  • Maximum opportunity to act independently and resolves complex issues within program area.
  • May direct or participate in negotiations for complex, high profile or sensitive agreements.
  • Minimize legal risk to the Conservancy and ensure legal compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
  • Travel frequently and on short notice, work long hours and on weekends.
  • Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain.
What You'll Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree and 7 years related experience.
  • Experience in planning and delivering budgetary responsibilities.
  • Experience managing and supervising a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience developing, managing, and implementing multiple projects and strategic goals.
  • Experience working across complex organizations.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams across multiple organizational levels.
  • Experience, coursework, or other training in principles, practices, and procedures of relevant field.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Effective training skills.
  • Effectively communicates via presentations, conversations, and documents.
  • Experience managing a geographically dispersed team.
  • Expert knowledge of current and evolving trends in relevant discipline.
  • Proficiency in synthesizing materials from multiple sources into a coherent and accurate summary.
  • Proficiency in working independently as well as jointly with colleagues on a team.
  • Understanding of best practices in non-profit management.

This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with TNC's Auto Safety Program . Employees may not drive Conservancy-owned/leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered "high risk drivers." Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employee's motor vehicle record.

Salary Information:

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $108,000.00- $135,000.00. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
