General Description:  
Under the general supervision of the Surgery Manager and the direct supervision of the Surgery Clinical Coordinator and the Operating Room RN, the Operating Room Assistant is responsible for decontamination or OR suites, restocking of supplies, transportation, assisting with positioning, and patient preparation for procedures as required. Responsible for environmental needs in the department including management of blood and body fluids. Acts as a runner for time sensitive and clinically significant products, such as stat labs and blood participants in OR room turnover ensuring effective and efficient room turnovers. Adheres to the Parrish Medical Centers Corporate Compliance Plan rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. 

  Key Responsibilities:

• Ensures safe Transport, transfer, and positioning of patients utilizing good body mechanics. Maintains patient privacy and dignity at all times. Adheres to policies related to patient identification and confidentiality. Utilizes knowledge of surgical specialty positioning equipment
• Assists with equipment management. May have specific training related to lasers, video, printers, or other equipment utilized in the department. Reports any problems with equipment to department manager 
• Procedure and restock operating room supplies, including needles and syringes, blankets, positioning devices, anesthesia circuits and gases. Maintain appropriate PAR levels. 
• Decontaminates OR suites between cases. Includes disinfection of lights and furniture tops, mop floors, empty trash and soiled linen. 
• Consistently cleans, disinfects, sterilizes and ensures availability of utilized equipment according to company standards and practices. Includes completion of department logs/records. 
• Efficient and organized in skills to assist tea, with safe and appropriate turnovers. Demonstrates knowledge of cleaning protocols for all types of specialty surgical equipment. Can articulate department goals and metrics for first cases starts and turnover times and contributes ideas for improvement. 
• Promotes a safe environment. Appropriate action in emergency situations, awareness and control of hazards which may endanger patients, visitors and employees, identifies and reports environmental concerns to the management team. Ensures work areas and hallways are free of clutter. 
• Follows CDC isolation guidelines, appropriate use of PPE, performs hand washing according to policy and enforces safety regulations. Strictly adheres to all infection control practices. Maintains basic knowledge pf aseptic technique and has knowledge of the boundaries of the sterile surgical field. 
• Supports the customer and employee satisfaction activities of the organization. Maintains good relationships with physicians, management, other departments, and staff. 
• Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the department. Participants in performance improvement projects. Adheres to all policies and procedures.
• All other duties as assigned.
• Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as pertains to the work area. Performs similar or related duties, as assigned. *Indicates an essential” job function

Requirements:

Formal Education:

• High School Diploma or GED required 

Work Experience:

• Minimum of 1 year experience

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:

• Nursing Assistant Certification preferred 
• Adult Heart saver (within 90 days of employment)
