Lead Commissioning Technician (Electrical & Controls)

As a Lead Commissioning Technician, you will serve as the technical leader responsible for electrical assembly, controls integration, testing, commissioning, and startup of sophisticated HVAC manufacturing equipment. This is a highly visible role that combines hands-on electrical expertise with leadership responsibilities, allowing you to influence quality, performance, and operational excellence from initial assembly through final commissioning.

You will work closely with production, engineering, controls partners, and fellow technicians to ensure every system is built to specification, tested thoroughly, and delivered with confidence.

What You'll Do

Electrical Assembly & System Integration

• Assemble, wire, and integrate electrical and electromechanical systems for custom HVAC manufacturing equipment.
• Build and wire control panels, power distribution panels, and field devices according to engineering specifications.
• Interpret and work from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical documentation.
• Verify electrical installations meet quality, safety, and operational standards.

Commissioning & Startup

• Lead commissioning activities for newly built equipment and systems.
• Execute startup procedures and functional testing to ensure performance and reliability.
• Validate equipment operation against customer and engineering specifications.
• Coordinate commissioning schedules and ensure projects remain on track for completion.

Troubleshooting & Technical Problem Solving

• Diagnose and resolve electrical, controls, and operational issues during assembly, testing, and startup.
• Perform electrical testing on circuits, components, motors, sensors, drives, and control systems.
• Investigate root causes of failures and implement effective corrective actions.
• Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to improve equipment performance and assembly processes.

Controls & Programming Support

• Assist with controller setup, configuration, and programming.
• Verify proper communication between controls, sensors, actuators, and electrical components.
• Collaborate with controls engineers and third-party automation partners to ensure seamless system integration.
• Support modifications and updates to control systems based on project requirements.

Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to electrical technicians and assemblers.
• Serve as a key liaison between Production, Engineering, Quality, and Controls teams.
• Drive quality standards and ensure work is completed accurately and efficiently.
• Promote a safe, organized, and team-oriented work environment.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of electrical assembly experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Proven experience commissioning industrial equipment or machinery.
• Experience within HVAC manufacturing, industrial equipment manufacturing, or related industries.
• Strong experience in electrical testing, troubleshooting, startup, and commissioning.
• Ability to read, interpret, and work from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints.
• Thorough understanding of electrical components, controls systems, and industrial wiring practices.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently while leading and supporting others.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with PLCs, controllers, and industrial automation systems.
• Familiarity with controller programming and controls integration.
• Knowledge of industrial communication networks and control architectures.
• Previous experience in a lead technician capacity.
• Understanding of Lean Manufacturing, quality systems, and continuous improvement methodologies.

This is a Permanent position based out of Tolleson, AZ.

The pay range for this position is $62400.00 - $79040.00/yr.
