Secondary General Middle School Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate would possess certification by the Wisconsin Department of Public Istructions in the subject areas taught and such alternatives to the qualifications as the Board of Edcuation may find appropriate and acceptable.

JOB GOALS: The Manawa School District is looking for a highly motivated 6th through 8th grade Middle School teacher with and emphasis on Math and English learning. Interested applicants will be enthusiastic, positive, team oriented, and self-motivated, with the ability to plan, create, and implement differentiated lessons. The selected candidates must possess a strong background of experience/understand of the subject standards and assessing of standards using Rubrics. Additional extra-curricular and coaching opportunities available.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:


[All the following are the essential functions of the position.]

  • Consistently displays the qualities as described in the attached teacher standards and indicators.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals.
  • Create a positive classroom atmosphere that is conducive to learning.
  • Use appropriate and effective instructional techniques.
  • Provide for individual differences in children.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis as determined by the teacher. Provide progress reports for student, parent, and office use as designated by Administration.
  • Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintain order.
  • Carry out administration assignments and duties.
  • Cooperate with other staff members in planning instructional programs, developing procedures, and carrying out assigned duties.
  • Demonstrate professional characteristics which are determined by the teaching standards from the DPI and maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Accept a share of responsibility for co-curricular activities.
  • Keep such records as are required by Board regulations, principals, and the District Administrator. These records include class record books and lesson plan books. Complete and turn in to the building office a classroom inventory.
  • Do not allow any portion of the school time to be occupied by any solicitors or agents, except by consent of the administration, in accordance with Board policy.
  • Enforce the rules and regulations of the school as set down by the Board, the District Administrator, and principals. Be jointly responsible for enforcement of discipline and the operation of a good school.
  • Exercise general supervision over student conduct, not only while in the classroom, but also before school, during noon hours, recess, in the hallways, and during co-curricular activities, as assigned by the District Administrator or principal.
  • Instruct and encourage students in correct habits of manner and principles. Corporal punishment is prohibited. Physical force may only be used as established in Board policy and state law.
  • Assume hallway and playground duty as assigned by the principal.
  • Set the example and preserve neatness in their rooms.
  • Be responsible for all books and supplies provided for student use and shall see that the furniture, apparatus, maps, books and other equipment is not defaced or damaged. Any breakage or defacing of school property shall be investigated and reported to the principal for investigation and action.
  • Do not use time during school hours for working on personal items or doing personal errands.
  • Consult with the principal about any plans or programs that they may wish to initiate when there is a question as to the advisability of the effect it may have on the school in general.
  • Attend all meetings called by the principal and the District Administrator, including in-service training meetings scheduled by the District Administrator and special meetings called by principals.
  • Report injuries within the scope of their employment in writing to the District Administrator immediately. The District carries worker's compensation insurance for employees, including teachers.
  • Submit grades for report cards, which are issued on a nine-week basis.
  • See that all lights are turned off, that all windows are closed and doors are locked when they leave their rooms at night.
  • Obtain principal and District Administrator approval of teacher-initiated requisitions and purchase orders.
  • Be in their classrooms during the designated class periods throughout the day.
  • Participate in I.E.P. meetings as needed.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the principal.



EVALUATION: The appropriate building principal shall evaluate the performance of secondary teachers.
