About This Role Crusoe is building a vertically integrated, climate aligned, high performance AI cloud. We are rapidly scaling our infrastructure to meet the industry's most high value workloads. As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will lead the team responsible for the architecture, delivery, and operations of our high performance environments. You will manage a team with the dual mandate of operating our current petabyte scale infrastructure and building the next generation, bespoke cloud storage platform optimized for AI and HPC workloads. This is a high impact role where your leadership, strategy, and decisions directly impact revenue and the success of our customers’ most critical pipelines. You will partner cross functionally across key engineering teams and operate with direct visibility at the VP and SVP level. What You’ll Be Working On: Team Leadership & People Development Lead and grow a team of software engineers spanning all levels with a focus on career development, performance management, and building a high‑performing engineering culture Set clear team goals, run structured performance reviews, and create individualized growth paths that help engineers advance their careers Foster a team environment where ownership is distributed, calculated risk‑taking is encouraged, and engineers are empowered to solve hard problems Drive recruiting and hiring to grow the team; eventually owning the full hiring process Project Management & Execution Clearly translate product requirements into actionable engineering plans, from architecture and design through task breakdown, estimation, and delivery Maintain a clear view of dependencies, resourcing, and sequencing across parallel workstreams to keep projects on track Coordinate across partner teams and external vendors to ensure storage integrates cleanly into the broader Crusoe Cloud platform Technical Oversight Lead architecture and design reviews, providing substantive technical input and holding the bar for quality across your team's work Maintain enough technical depth to conduct meaningful code reviews and engage credibly with your most senior engineers on complex design decisions Drive incident response for storage‑related issues, ensuring fast resolution and durable fixes for business‑critical systems Develop a strong understanding of the full storage stack from NAND to GPU, focusing on performance characteristics and submillisecond latency required by our AI/ML customer access patterns. Cross‑Functional & Organizational Impact Serve as the primary technical representative for Storage in cross‑functional initiatives, ensuring your team's needs and constraints are well‑understood by partner teams and leadership Build strong working relationships with Compute, SDN, SRE, and CCX teams to ensure storage is a reliable, well‑integrated part of the overall platform Engage directly with hardware vendors and enterprise customers to address performance issues and inform next‑generation hardware‑software design What You’ll Bring to the Team: Management Experience 4+ years of engineering management experience, with a demonstrated track record of growing teams and developing engineers, managing performance, and delivering cross‑functional projects Experience leading teams of 6+ engineers at multiple levels A background as a strong individual contributor — software engineer, tech lead, or architect who moved into management and still engages deeply with technical work Storage & Infrastructure Depth 4+ years of hands‑on experience with distributed storage systems such as Ceph, GlusterFS, or MinIO Hands on experience with production block, file, and object storage systems Experience with performance optimization and capacity planning for large‑scale storage systems Deep working knowledge of high performance storage protocols including NFS over RDMA, NVMe‑oF, S3, and RoCE/InfiniBand fabrics. Familiarity with modern storage technologies (NVMe, RDMA, DPUs) and their impact on system performance, including kernel level concepts around I/O subsystems and volumes. Strong programming methodologies and background in C/C++, Go, Java, or Rust, sufficient to conduct substantive code reviews and contribute to architecture discussions, particularly in developing cloud native storage solutions. Leadership Approach Motivated by developing people and scaling impact through your team Able to manage performance clearly and constructively, including navigating difficult people situations with sound judgment and good process Comfortable making decisions with incomplete information, and skilled at balancing near‑term execution with longer‑term technical quality Adaptable in your technical approach, evaluating tools and architectures on their merits rather than defaulting to what's familiar Collaborative across team boundaries, with a track record of influencing outcomes without direct authority Nice to Have Prior IC experience designing, deploying, and operating distributed storage systems at a Cloud Service Provider (CSP), neo‑cloud, HPC integrator, or AI infrastructure company Experience with containerized workloads and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes, Docker) Familiarity with infrastructure‑as‑code tools like Terraform or Ansible Linux internals knowledge, particularly around I/O subsystems, devices, and volumes Why Crusoe Crusoe sits at an unusual moment: we have production AI workloads from some of the most demanding customers in the industry running on infrastructure that we're still actively building out. Restricted Stock Units are included in all offers.
