Accountant II – General LedgerTo advance the college's mission, vision, principles, values and strategic initiatives through continuous improvement decisions.The Accountant II – General Ledger will assist with the maintenance of general ledger functions and processes across the College. Will possess the knowledge to independently perform tasks including creation, verification, and execution of journal entries, account analysis and reconciliation, and assist with month-end processing. Ensure timeliness and accuracy of information as it flows into the general ledger systems.The typical work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.Advocate for Continual Improvement- empowering each other to identify opportunities for excellence.Collaborate with Mutual Accountability- working together with a willingness to take ownership and account for our actions.Champion Service- anticipating needs and create a welcoming, diverse, and inclusive environment.Perseverance- commitment to excellence even in the face of adversity or delay in achieving success.Lead- regardless of title, through positive influence.Duties/Responsibilities:Ensure a thorough understanding of the general ledger practices to accurately create, verify, and execute general ledger transactionsManage the account analysis and reconciliations for assigned areas of responsibility including credit card activity, campus card liability, prepaid expenses and other various general ledger activityMonitor the Operating Equipment Protection Insurance program through detailed analysis to ensure timely and accurate transaction posting and reconciliation including expense approval and regular reporting.Manage the unclaimed property of the college requiring ongoing awareness of established federal and state regulationsProvide assistance for month and year-end closing processes, and annual audits for the college and related entities.Perform other related work duties as assignedKnowledge and implementation of financial and accounting principles and proceduresHave the presence, intelligence, demeanor and verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively interact at all levels within, and external to the collegeMust be accurate and detail oriented in daily workAbility to work independently and as part of a team to accomplish department goals and college initiativesPossess excellent organizational skills, including the ability to plan, establish priorities and handle multiple tasks and projectsWelcome, value, and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differencesPosition involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.Minimum Qualifications:Associate's degree in accounting or related field2+ years related experienceExperience with PC's and related softwareA strong working knowledge of Microsoft OfficePreferred Qualifications, Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations:Bachelor's degree in accounting or related fieldExperience with general ledger classifications and account analysisKnowledge of Ellucian Colleague softwareKirkwood Community College prides itself on fostering a diverse workforce and values unique perspectives throughout its campus community.
