Distribution Engineer

Distribution Engineer / Designer Leidos is seeking Distribution Engineers & Designers who are passionate about electric utility design engineering. In this role, you will work directly with clients to ensure high‑quality work for Leidos electric utility customers. Responsibilities Independently develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems. Review work provided by the client and assess scope requirements. Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, voltage drop and flicker. Provide engineering support during construction, including post‑construction reviews. Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design. Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements, developing large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, work permit development, easements, and ROW applications. Required Qualifications 2+ years of prior relevant experience. Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering (additional relevant experience or certifications may be considered). Experience with execution of distribution projects from kickoff through design approval, including customer interaction and process documentation. Experience with utility reliability projects. Proficiency with the NESC. Availability to use a personal vehicle for occasional customer‑related travel. Willingness to perform both field and office work, including outdoor environments. Valid U.S. driver's license. Desired Skills Previous QA/QC experience. Experience in estimating costs, development of BOM, and calculating CIAC. Experience with design tools such as Pole Foreman, O-Calc, Spida-Calc. Experience with the Work Management System CREWS. Relevant management or leadership experience (1 year or more).
