Cut Operator

The Cut Operator plays a key role in accurately cutting, measuring, and preparing materials to meet customer specifications while supporting shipping and receiving activities. This hands-on position operates various cutting machines, reads and interprets measurements and blueprints, and ensures materials are processed efficiently with minimal waste. The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality in a production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate saws, bandsaws, and other cutting equipment with precision and efficiency to meet production requirements.
  • Read and interpret tape measures, blueprints, and part specifications to ensure materials are cut to exact dimensions.
  • Measure, mark, and cut materials to size while minimizing scrap and waste.
  • Identify, label, and secure all materials and pallets properly to maintain accurate inventory and job tracking.
  • Perform routine tool adjustments and sharpening to keep cutting equipment in optimal working condition.
  • Assist with shipping and receiving tasks, including organizing pallets, checking in incoming materials, and staging outgoing jobs.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area by following all safety procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Handle general labor and general production tasks as needed to support overall workflow.
  • Operate machines and equipment used in sheet metal and metal cutting fabrication.
  • Work collaboratively with team members across departments to keep jobs moving on schedule.

Essential Skills

  • Strong ability to read a tape measure accurately and apply basic shop math.
  • Mechanical aptitude, with experience in cutting, fabrication, or production environments preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and part specifications.
  • Experience using hand tools and power tools in a production or mechanical setting.
  • Proficiency with saw operation, including bandsaws and other saw machines used to cut metal and sheet metal.
  • Ability to perform general machine operation and general production tasks.
  • Capability to lift and move 30 to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to work safely in a non-climate-controlled, high-heat environment.
  • Willingness to follow safety procedures and use required PPE, including hearing protection when necessary.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to assist across departments as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in mechanical assembly or fabrication environments.
  • Comfort working with repetitive motions involving wrists, hands, and fingers.
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and similar structures safely.
  • Experience handling sheet metal and metal cutting operations.
  • Strong grasping skills and dexterity for picking, pinching, and working with small components.
  • Reliability and punctuality to support consistent production schedules.

Work Environment

This role is based in a production facility within an aviation-related environment that is hot and non-climate-controlled. The standard schedule runs from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with opportunities for overtime as needed. The position involves medium work, regularly exerting between 30 and 50 pounds of force, and requires frequent standing for sustained periods, walking, climbing ladders and stairs, pushing, pulling, lifting, and moving materials. You will perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers, including picking, pinching, typing, and grasping objects. The environment includes exposure to noise levels that may require ear plugs, as well as potential hazards such as moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, high heat, chemicals, fumes, odors, and areas with limited ventilation. Appropriate PPE is required and provided, and you will work around saws, bandsaws, and other cutting and fabrication equipment in a busy production setting.

This is a Permanent position based out of O'Fallon, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45800.00 - $52000.00/yr.
