• Pay Rate: $60.00 / Hour (USD)
• Shift / Schedule: Night (3x12 Hours), 18:45–7:15

Job Summary

This Medical Surgical/Oncology travel nursing position serves a unit primarily treating Medical Surgical patients with Oncology history. The unit maintains a daily census of 42, with target nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:6. Contract staff will be assigned equally to home unit staff to ensure patients are covered with a registered nurse at all times.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide inpatient Medical Surgical nursing care to a primary patient population with general medical-surgical diagnoses
• Administer chemotherapy/biotherapy via IV, PO, or injection as needed
• Care for patients presenting with diagnoses including AKI, Sepsis, Cancer, Septic shock, Pain, OD, Malignant Neoplasms, ARF, Encephalopathy, FTT, Diabetic foot ulcers, and Heparin drips
• Perform specialized skills including Colostomy care, Accessing Ports, Blood Product Administration, Central line blood draw, Peripheral Line Care/Management, PICC line management, Heparin, Insulin, Surgical drains, Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), Nasal Cannula, Non-invasive airway management, Isolation Precautions, and Wound Care/Wound Vac
• Float to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatients holding, including inpatient holding in the ED or any alternate medical patient care location
• Work every other weekend as required
• Answer call if called off on a prescheduled shift; shifts called out will need to have make-up shifts rescheduled
• Attend monthly staff meetings
• Be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team; may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster
• May be preassigned to units as needed, including potential consolidation to the Centralized Office mid-contract
• Utilize unit systems: PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR for medication administration, documentation, and communication

Preferred Skills

• Oncology certification (preferred); traveler must be able to administer chemo if needed

• Charge nurse experience
• OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse)

Education Requirements

• Registered Nurse (RN) License required
• BLS required
• Oncology certification preferred
• OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse) preferred

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
• 1st-time travelers accepted
• Local candidates accepted

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

• Unit: Medical Surgical/Oncology (MS/Onc)
• Daily census: 42
• Target nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6; during times of increased census, typical ratios may be higher
• Every other weekend required
• Call required if called off on a prescheduled shift
• Floating required to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatients holding, such as inpatient holding in the ED or any alternate medical patient care location
• Contract staff assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team; may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster
• Scrubs: Navy Blue and white

Important Notes

• RTO (Request Time Off) after booking is not allowed and is not allowed to be worked out onsite. Any call-offs or additional RTO on unit could possibly result in a cancel and DNR.
• Unit orientation: 24 hours (2 shifts)
• Must pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty
• Flu vaccination required (Medical/Religious Exemptions only)
