The Position

As an Epidemiologist with the Department of Health (DOH) in the Division of Environmental Health Epidemiology, you take on an exciting role that helps protect communities across Pennsylvania. Description Of Work

This position focuses on collecting, analyzing, and interpreting environmental health data to support statewide public health initiatives. You help identify environmental risks, guide outreach efforts, and contribute to scientific communication that promotes stronger health outcomes. As an Epidemiologist, you will perform the following duties:

• Data Collection: Gather and analyze environmental health concerns and coordinate response activities with state and local partners
• Public Health Analysis: Evaluate environmental health data and produce accurate information for public review and program use
• Visualization Expertise: Create clear data visualizations using GIS or PowerBI to support outreach and improve environmental indicator tools
• Statistical Assessment: Perform descriptive and advanced statistical analysis to identify health trends and disparities
• Investigation Support: Design assessments, analyze surveillance data, and conduct investigations related to environmental exposures
• Communication Duties: Prepare publications, reports, and presentations to share epidemiologic findings with professional and public audiences

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Required Experience, Training & Eligibility

Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Possession of either a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degree, Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in epidemiology, Doctoral degree in Medicine (MD), Osteopathy (DO), Dental Surgery/Medicine (DDS/DDM/DMD), or Veterinary Medicine (DVM); AND two years of professional experience investigating disease outbreaks, designing and conducting epidemiologic studies, or designing and maintaining a disease surveillance system; or
• Possession of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in a biological science such as biology, genetics, nursing or virology; AND either a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree or Master of Science (MS) degree in epidemiology; AND two years of professional experience investigating disease outbreaks, designing and conducting epidemiologic studies, or designing and maintaining a disease surveillance system.

Other Requirements:

• You must possess two years of professional experience in coding and implementing environmental health data visualization projects using either GIS or PowerBI software.
• PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
