Registered Nurse - Ambulatory Bronchoscopy & Advanced Diagnostics

Job Description

• I4 Unit - Outpatient. Procedures Suite
• 7 am - 5:30 pm 
• Contingent
• No weekends, no holidays, no on call, in person, no hybrid.
• There are no minimum or maximum hours per week or month, making this an ideal opportunity for nurses seeking flexible, part-time employment. Schedule is provided two months in advance.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Bronchoscopy & Advanced Diagnostics Department is seeking a skilled and flexible Registered Nurse to join our team on a PRN/contingent basis. Our unit specializes in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic interventional bronchoscopy procedures and is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of Interventional Pulmonologists and medical/surgical critical care nurses. We provide care for both inpatient populations, including ICU, step-down, and general practice units, as well as ambulatory outpatients.

About the Department

Our team performs a variety of advanced pulmonary procedures, including:

• Robotic diagnostic bronchoscopy
• Post-lung transplant surveillance
• Chest tube and PleurX catheter placement/Pleural procedures

Primary Responsibilities

The selected nurse will primarily support patient flow before and after procedures, including:

• Admitting and discharging patients following procedures performed under moderate sedation or general anesthesia
• Providing pre and post procedure education and instructions via telephone
• Conducting post-procedure follow-up calls
• Transporting and processing laboratory specimens · Monitoring patients for post-procedure complications and initiating appropriate interventions when necessary

Preferences

• ACLS certification
• Proficiency with: Peripheral IV insertion, Mediport access, Blood specimen collection through central and peripheral lines
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
• Ability to recognize and respond to potential post-procedure complications, including pneumothorax, airway compromise and need for reintubation 
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills Preferred
• ICU, Pre-Op or PACU experience
• Previous procedural nursing experience.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
• Successful completion of Henry Ford Ambulatory orientation.
• Preferred experience in the specialty.
• Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

• Current licensure by the Michigan State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.
• Current BLS or ACLS per Henry Ford Health policy.
• Certification will be required when it is a regulatory requirement in the State of Michigan or a documented community standard, i.e., Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN).
