Physician, MD/ DO (PRN)

Job Overview A government contract requires that this position be restricted to U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents. Applicants must provide documentation that they are a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident to qualify. Responsibilities Ensure compliance with OSHA and the Privacy Act, including standards set by USMEPCOM, the Department of Defense, and applicable service regulations. Conduct thorough medical record reviews, histories, and physical examinations as per Department of Defense standards; evaluate lab results, ensure accurate profiling, and coordinate with consultants and Service waiver authorities. Evaluate diagnostic test results conducted by the MEPS medical department to identify potential disqualifying conditions. Perform comprehensive in‑person medical histories for applicants who have completed the prescreening process and received authorization to proceed. Assess applicants for injuries, deformities, defects, and disorders across all body systems, including dental, psychiatric, and behavioral, and conduct a standardized orthopedic‑neurological exam. Determine the need for further physical examination of identified problem areas. Directly inform applicants of abnormal findings through personal consultation or written communication. Convey updates to medical staff for entry into the USMEPCOM‑specific applicant database. Perform other job‑related duties as assigned. Qualifications Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination based on a completed background investigation. Position is designated as non‑sensitive and requires a personnel security investigation. Must obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not replace BLS completion. Must fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges. One‑year supervisory probationary period may be required. Successful completion of applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training is required to access the MHS GENESIS System within 30 days of onboarding. Occasional shift work (before 0600 or after 1800 hours) and occasional Saturdays may be required. Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a U.S. or Canadian school accredited by recognized accrediting bodies or by the U.S. Department of Education at the time of graduation. Must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory. After obtaining a medical degree, must have at least one year of supervised experience in direct clinical service (e.g., internship or the first year of a residency program). Must possess 3 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position or equivalent experience and training. If using foreign education, credentials must be evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and deemed equivalent to an accredited U.S. program, and must pass pre‑employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
