Assistant General Counsel, Business Development Transactions Law

Bristol Myers Squibb seeks an Assistant General Counsel to lead business development transactions legal strategy and a team of attorneys. This senior role manages complex licensing, M&A, collaborations, and equity investments across the transaction portfolio while advising senior executives on deal structure and enterprise risk.

Responsibilities

Set legal strategy for BD transactions aligned with enterprise priorities and risk tolerance
Oversee structuring, drafting, and negotiation of high-value licensing, M&A, and investment deals
Lead and develop BD Transactions attorney team, managing performance and talent growth
Own legal due diligence model, setting scope expectations and coordinating specialist teams
Select and manage external counsel, negotiate fees, and control legal spend across portfolio

Requirements

J.D. degree and state bar admission
Minimum 15 years legal experience in biopharmaceutical/life sciences transactions
Deep knowledge of biopharmaceutical deal structures and regulatory environment
Track record leading large, complex, high-risk transactions
Leadership experience managing senior attorneys in matrixed environments
Exceptional strategic thinking and ability to navigate ambiguity
Strong executive presence and cross-functional influence skills

Compensation: $290,450 - $351,951
