Mechanical Maintenance Millwright — Steel Plant Operations

A day in this role You arrive for your rotating shift and review the handoff from the prior team. Your first stop is a quick walk-through of the bay: conveyors hum, cranes cycle, and mobile equipment moves stock. A hydraulic line on a press needs attention, so you isolate the system, diagnose the fault, and return it to service. Before break, you team up with a peer to align a power transmission drive. After lunch, you climb to an overhead crane runway for inspections, then step into a confined space (with proper permits) to complete a lube route. By shift end, you’ve kept production moving safely and smoothly. What you’ll do Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical systems and equipment across the plant, including hydraulics, pneumatics, lubrication, power transmission, conveyors, cranes, and mobile equipment. Use standard and specialized tools, as well as pendant/overhead cranes and forklifts, to complete mechanical maintenance tasks in a heavy industrial setting. Assist operations as needed to support continuous production. Work solo with minimal supervision or alongside a team of maintenance technicians. Perform work at heights and in confined spaces when required. Where you’ll work Expect variety. You’ll move through different areas of the plant where conditions can be hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, and noisy. Safety is non‑negotiable; you’ll follow procedures and wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective clothing, and metatarsal boots). Schedule and expectations 8‑hour rotating shifts, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Overtime as business needs dictate. Reliable attendance, punctuality, and self‑direction are essential. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. At least 1 year of manufacturing/industrial experience (including applicable military experience) or equivalent education. Relevant exposure may include hydraulics, pneumatics, lubrication, power transmission, welding, pipefitting, structural repair, or diesel mechanics. Must pass assessment test(s).
