School Custodian

CustodianThis position is responsible for performing manual tasks concerned with general housekeeping, sanitation, and appearance of the school plant. Under general supervision, performs building cleaning and facilities maintenance work in schools and administrative buildings. The work involves varied building cleaning duties and related facilities and grounds maintenance work.Essential duties and responsibilities include:Having a positive attitude toward job and customer service and dressing appropriately for a school settingCleaning and maintaining a variety of other surfaces such as ceilings, chalkboards, counter and tabletops, lockers, etc.Complying with all regulatory mandatesWorking independently, organizing, and using time effectively; can work effectively with frequent interruptions and adapt to changing circumstances, showing initiativeAssisting school staff by making deliveries to classrooms, moving furniture and other heavy objects between rooms, and performing other manual or strenuous tasksBeing responsible for the overall condition of the building and groundsSafely working with cleaning chemicals and refuse in compliance with all required regulationsOrdering and maintaining building supplies and maintaining the supply budgetOperating power mower in cutting lawns and cleaning up rubbish from grounds and adjacent areasOperating all cleaning equipment to include basic tools for maintenance such as ladders, tools, etc.Dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, buffing, and cleaning floors, carpets, hallways, classrooms, locker rooms, gymnasiums, cafeterias, large group rooms, and office spaceCleaning and washing walls, light fixtures, blinds, windows, restrooms, clinic, water fountains, and vacuuming hallways. Replacing light bulbsBeing responsible for appropriately opening and/or closing buildings according to district protocolsWorking within the procedures and systems in the school communityCarrying out such other and further duties, whether specifically listed above or not, as are assigned or required by such employee's supervisor, other appropriate school personnel, law, board policy administrative regulation, department handbook, as are reasonably necessary to the efficient operation of the school system and its missionWork environment/physical demands include:The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Sufficient physical strength and ability to lift and move heavy objects (minimum 50 lbs.) and to perform manual labor.
