About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Cardiac Thoracic Duration: 26 Weeks Shift: 12 Hours Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Active IL RN License required Certifications: BLS required, ACLS recommended Must-Have: - EKG interpretation - Medication titration - Basic nursing skills Description: The Cardiac Thoracic unit has 70 beds. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 during the day and 1:5-6 at night. Common diagnoses include myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and support for pacemaker/AICD placements. Nurses need to be experienced in EKG interpretation and medication titration. They will titrate drips, mainly Cardizem and heparin. There is a charge nurse on every shift who rarely takes patients. A house supervisor is available 24/7. Patient care technicians assist on the unit with ratios of 1:8-9 during the day, 1:9-10 during the evening, and 1:10-12 at night. Registered nurses are required to read and interpret strips. The unit has telemetry monitors provided by Phillips and also has monitor techs. Registered nurses may float to other general medical units. Scrub color is flexible, but cartoon prints are not permitted as this is an adult unit. Weekend work is required every other weekend. Holiday rotations are part of the scheduling, including major holidays. Call or standby requirements are currently not applicable.
