Assists Welders with the preparation, positioning, handling, cleaning, finishing, and movement of metal components, tools, and materials used in welding and fabrication operations. Supports safe and efficient production while learning welding and fabrication processes and following production work orders, company procedures, and quality requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·         Assists Welders with preparing metal components for welding and fabrication operations.

·         Reads and follows production work orders, job instructions, drawings, and verbal directions appropriate to assigned tasks.

·         Positions, aligns, holds, clamps, and secures metal components as directed by a Welder or the Welding Supervisor.

·         Cleans and prepares metal surfaces by grinding, deburring, sanding, scraping, or other approved methods.

·         Removes slag, burrs, sharp edges, scale, and other material from workpieces as required.

·         Assists with measuring, marking, cutting, trimming, and fitting metal components under direction.

·         Moves and stages raw materials, completed parts, tooling, welding equipment, and supplies as required.

·         Provides Welders with required tools, materials, fixtures, and supplies to support production.

·         Assists with setup and cleanup of welding and fabrication work areas and equipment.

·         Uses basic hand tools, grinders, deburring tools, and other approved equipment after receiving required training.

·         Learns proper welding preparation, fit-up, fabrication, inspection, and quality requirements through on-the-job training.

·         Inspects materials and workpieces for visible damage or obvious discrepancies and reports concerns to the Welder or Welding Supervisor.

·         Reports nonconforming material, equipment problems, unsafe conditions, and quality concerns to the Welding Supervisor.

·         Completes Maintenance Request Forms or assists with reporting equipment requiring repair or service when directed.

·         Maintains welding equipment, tools, materials, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.

·         Follows all company safety requirements and uses required personal protective equipment.
