Field Safety Coordinator - 3rd Shift

The 3rd Shift Field Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting the project safety program during overnight operations by conducting field observations, ensuring compliance with company safety policies and regulatory requirements, assisting supervision with hazard identification and mitigation, and promoting a proactive safety culture. This position serves as the primary safety representative during night-shift operations and works closely with craft personnel, supervisors, subcontractors, and project management to maintain a safe and productive work environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Safety Compliance Monitor field operations to ensure compliance with company safety policies, project requirements, and applicable OSHA and Cal/OSHA regulations. Conduct routine safety inspections and audits of active work areas. Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and work with supervision to implement corrective actions. Verify that required permits, authorizations, and safety documentation are completed and maintained. Field Oversight Perform regular site walks throughout the shift. Lane closure work Work at heights Confined space entry Crane and rigging operations Nighttime construction activities Ensure required controls and protective measures are implemented. Respond to incidents, near misses, and emergencies occurring during the shift. Conduct preliminary incident investigations. Gather statements, photographs, and relevant documentation. Assist with root cause analysis and corrective action development. Training and Communication Conduct and document safety orientations and task-specific training as required. Lead safety discussions, Take 5 for Safety reviews, and toolbox talks. Provide coaching and mentoring to field personnel regarding safe work practices. Serve as a safety resource for employees and subcontractors. Documentation and Reporting Complete daily safety reports and inspection records. Maintain training records, corrective action logs, and inspection documentation. Track safety observations and trend data. Communicate significant safety concerns to project management and safety leadership. Assist in implementing emergency response procedures. Participate in drills and emergency exercises. Coordinate emergency response activities during overnight operations until additional management personnel arrive on site. Required Qualifications Education High School Diploma or GED required. Degree or coursework in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Health and Safety, Construction Management, or a related field preferred. Experience Minimum 2 years of construction safety experience preferred. Experience supporting heavy civil, bridge, transportation, marine, or infrastructure projects is highly desirable. Experience working night shift and managing safety in low-light conditions preferred. Certifications OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification required. First Aid/CPR/AED certification required or ability to obtain within 30 days. CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) greatly preferred. Additional certifications related to fall protection, confined space, crane safety, or emergency response are desirable. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of OSHA and Cal/OSHA regulations. Familiarity with construction safety management systems. Ability to recognize hazards and implement effective controls. Strong investigative and analytical skills. Ability to communicate effectively with craft workers, foremen, subcontractors, and management. Strong written documentation and reporting skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic safety management platforms. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision during overnight operations. Ability to maintain professionalism in high-pressure situations. Physical Requirements Ability to walk extensive distances over uneven terrain. Ability to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolds, and access structures. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment and work in active construction environments. This position is primarily field based and requires frequent presence in active construction areas during overnight operations.
