Atlantic County Vocational School District Position Function

Under direct supervision of the Building Security Supervisor and the Principal, the role involves patrolling school buildings to ensure a safe and secure building environment, as well as the personal safety of students, staff, and visitors.

Essential Functions:

• Provides for the safety and security of students, staff, visitors, and School District property in accordance with School District policies to provide an educational climate which is conducive to learning.
• Conducts ongoing security patrols of the building.
• Reports concerns and incidents which may require corrective action to Building Security Supervisor and Principal.
• Assists visitors to the school in receiving proper direction, assists in maintaining log of all visitors, and prevents unauthorized persons from entering the building.

• Performs related duties as required.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

• Knowledge of best practices in building security and safety.
• Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with principal, security guards, and others.
• Ability to describe orally or in writing security problems as needed.
• Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and others contacted in the course of work.
• Ability to maintain a professional, calm, and authoritative manner when challenged by students.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:

• Works in standard school building environment.
• Occasional work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
• Physical ability to separate students or others involved in altercations.

Qualifications Profile:

• Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.
• Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
• High School Diploma or completion of sufficient education to successfully perform the duties of the position.
• Successful experience in security or law enforcement.
• Experience working with adolescents preferred and the public school system.
• Knowledge of security measures, fire prevention, and crowd control.
• Ability to maintain order and to work with groups on matters of security.
• Must possess a valid NJ Driver’s License.
• Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.

Hourly Rate is $24.50 per hour & Sick Time
