What’s the role?
The Mill Laborer is a temporary position that reports to the Mill Supervisor, and the primary role is to perform heavy physical tasks as directed such as snow/ice removal, building, grounds & processing plant maintenance and providing general assistance to Mill Operators within the Processing Operations Department. Temporary roles often provide opportunities to transition into a full-time, permanent position within the company based on business needs and performance.
The specifics:
- Snow and ice removal
- Safely operate light vehicles and plant (eg, skid steer, bobcat, forklift)
- Maintain clean conveyor areas
- Clean out sumps
- General cleaning around mill operations
- Assist Mill Operators & Maintenance personnel as directed
- Use hand tools safely
- Ensure all safety related activities are undertaken in accordance with Company policy and MSHA
- requirements including Hazard IDs, pre-start checks, pre-start meetings, and incident reporting.
- Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in all work areas.
- Other duties as required
Qualifications Required
- Current Driver’s License.
Desired Experience & Competencies
- Experience operating small equipment such as scissor lifts and forklifts.
- Capable of heavy physical labor, including shovelling for up to 8 hrs per day.
