Samaritan is searching for a MLT/MT to join our team! This position is responsible for professional application of the principles, theories, and techniques of medical technology to produce reliable results, which aid the physicians in their diagnosis and treatment. The individual in this position reports to the Laboratory Director. This position works closely with patients and hospital staff in order to develop and enhance a friendly and cooperative relationship. Requirements:

1. Associates of Arts in chemical, physical, or biological science with one (1) year of clinical internship.
2. Nationally recognized certification as MT (ASCP or equivalent).
3. Washington State Medical Assistant Phlebotomist Certification.
4. Three (3) to five (5) years of hospital experience preferred.
5. One (1) year of training in the medical technology field.
6. Current CPR certification Healthcare Provider (HCP) level.

Specific Accountabilities:

1. Rotates in the different laboratory sections, as assigned, performing routine laboratory testing; these rotations include a regular weekend rotation and may include an occasional evening or night shift as required.
2. Perform qualitative and quantitative analysis in Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Serology, and/or Microbiology to obtain data used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
3. Perform complete, appropriate and accurate documentation in accordance with regulatory and specific environment.
4. Perform Quality Control as needed and document in the LIS with appropriate QC modifiers.
5. Check that barcode labels do not obscure patient name on specimens and that identities on both labels match.
6. Accurately identify specimen results as they are obtained from instruments and enter, with comments, into the LIS.
7. Assist with the cleanliness of the Clinical Laboratory.
8. Ensure the quality and workflow through Hematology, Chemistry, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Blood Bank and/or Microbiology by performing quality control checks, adhering to schedules, and keeping work area stocked and equipment in safe operating condition.
9. Assist in orientation, training and monitoring the work of students, graduate medical technologists, medical technicians and new staff to the department.
10. Adhere to departmental procedure for verification, documentation, and notification of identified critical values to appropriate site. Uses acceptable terminology for data documentation.
11. Equipment and supplies maintained, monitored and malfunctions reported to lead Technologist and/or Director of unusual QC or patient results.
12. Use time management and flexibility in organizing and prioritizing workload to provide optimal service to the department and the organization.
13. Performs work in accordance with CLIA/CAP standards.
14. Follows established policy and procedures as directed.
15. Registers patients and performs venipuncture.
16. Performs all duties of Laboratory Clerk/Assistant.
17. Maintains appropriate inventory of supplies for which the employee is responsible.
18. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
19. Ensures no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes, but is not limited to: security and safety, understanding of MSDS, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics.
20. Ensures self-compliance with organization policies and procedures as well as labor agreements.
21. Ensures the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive with the organization's values.
22. Conducts self in a professional manner and ensures personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job function while representing the organization.
23. Ensures that additional accountabilities, as may be required by management, be handled in a manner necessary to meet organizational standards.
