Robotics Lead Technician The Robotics Lead Technician is responsible for programming robot weld machines and other programmable equipment, providing technical expertise for integration, programming, assistance, and service of robotic cells. The role ensures that end products meet functional goals on required schedules and collaborates with cross‑functional teams to optimize manufacturing processes. Responsibilities Programming robotic welders (Motoman, Cincinnati Milacron) Setting up PLC and robot communications on new and existing equipment Understanding and ensuring weld quality Troubleshooting and remedying weld defects, wire feeders, weld power sources, and welding torches Debugging robotics programs Providing technical support for robotic systems Investigating mechanical failures or unexpected maintenance problems Creating backups of robot programs or parameters Analyzing and improving robot programs to enhance efficiency Reprogramming automation for engineering changes and improvements Setting up, programming, and conducting tests for process improvement and new products Providing technical assistance to production supervisors, industrial engineers, and project managers Training team members when equipment or programs change Participating in the successful launch of new products and technology Monitoring and improving the manufacturing process with production, tooling, maintenance, and quality to enhance throughput, quality, uptime, and reduce costs Troubleshooting mechanical, electrical controls, hydraulic, pneumatic, robotics, vision, PLCs, and tooling issues Implementing permanent corrective actions based on troubleshooting and root cause analysis Developing and documenting manufacturing work instructions Evaluating downtime situations for root cause and suggesting/improving solutions Other duties as assigned by manager Qualifications Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent 2‑year college or technical school with specialized robotic training preferred Electrical technician and PLC programming knowledge required Minimum 2 years of robotic welding programming experience, including robot interface, programming, and peripheral equipment integration/operation 2–5 years of knowledge of MRC (Motoman) and Milacron Knowledge of basic weld parameters and torch angles Ability to program, start‑up, troubleshoot, and repair robots, with an emphasis on programming Experience with robot and PLC interface code development and debugging Understanding of communication between PLC and robot integration Read and work from blueprints, program and edit complex weldments, operate highly technical robots, and work with selected weld processes Knowledge of welding methods, programming logic, weld parameters, and highly technical equipment Computer literacy with Windows, MS Office, and AutoCAD Customer focus and a commitment to continuous improvement Accountability and a no‑excuses approach to achieving results Teamwork, effective collaboration, and communication skills Work performed indoors in a heated modern factory space with ambient temperatures 55°F–90°F Required personal protective equipment: safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, and gloves Awareness of potential hazards such as moving parts, nip points, material handling, sharp edges, flying particles, sparks, heat, welding fumes, arc rays/light, electrical, lifting, and moderate noise exposure (70–90 dB) Benefits Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage 160 hours of Paid Time Off and Paid Holidays (Part‑Time prorated) 401(k) match Employee Stock Purchase Program Paid Parental Leave Tuition Reimbursement Estimated base salary: $68,000 – $93,500 annually, based on location, skills, and experience.
