BSA Sea Base
Overview Coral Nursery Mates are responsible for curriculum lectures and leading discussions in the field. Candidates should have a strong background in marine science/ecology and/or outdoor education and be able to work long hours teaching in the field during the summer in the Florida Keys. Coral Nursery staff will also serve as first mates aboard a 45-foot Corinthian Catamaran and 26-foot Dusky. Candidates must be competent swimmers and comfortable snorkeling and leading crews in the water. Responsibilities Deliver curriculum lectures and lead field discussions in marine science and ecology settings. Work long hours teaching in the field during the summer in the Florida Keys. Serve as first mates aboard boats (45-foot Corinthian Catamaran and 26-foot Dusky). Ensure safety and lead crews in water activities; candidate must be competent swimmers and comfortable snorkeling. Qualifications Strong background in marine science/ecology and/or outdoor education. Ability to work extended hours in outdoor field settings during summer. Competent swimming ability; comfortable snorkeling and leading water-based crews. Season and Application This application is for the Fall 2026 season. About Sea Base The Sea Base is one of four National High Adventure Bases operated by Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts of America). We offer programs that include fishing, sailing, scuba diving, coral restoration, snorkeling, kayaking, camping, and more across six operating locations. Home to our coral nursery and coral restoration efforts, Out Island adventure (Big Munson Island), and many other adventures. Sea Base, St. Thomas - Located in the United States Virgin Islands. Home of two different sailing opportunities. Sea Base Bahamas - Located about 100 miles east of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Home to three different sailing opportunities. About Sea Base Staff Our staff work in many different capacities to support and run our programs throughout the year. While the summer season (approximately mid-May through August) is the largest opportunity for staff, we have employment opportunities throughout the year. Employees have the opportunity to take advantage of regular meals prepared by our food-services team and on-site housing provided during each employment term. Accommodations also include fitness rooms, recreational areas, and laundry facilities.
