Certified Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) - Mattoon Primary Care

Overview

The Certified Medical Assistant / Registered Medical Assistant performs routine administrative and patient care support duties in a medical practice to assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensures that the office runs smoothly.

Qualifications

Certifications: One of the following:

• Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) - National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)

• Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA)

• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (AAH) - American Allied Health (AAH)

• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (ARMA) - American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)

• Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT) - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)

• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (AMT) - American Medical Technologists (AMT)

Other Requirements:

• Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 30 days

• H.S. Diploma/GED

Responsibilities

• Room patients and collect pertinent information, including chief complaint, family history, social history, surgical history, and medication reconciliation

• Complete telephone communications with patients, families, pharmacies, and healthcare facilities

• Gather and maintain patient information via telephone according to department policies and procedures

• Perform patient check-in and check-out duties

• Obtain prior authorizations

• Schedule appointments

• Verify insurance benefits

• Coordinate referrals and diagnostic testing

• Perform office procedures according to department-specific competencies

• Conduct urine catheterizations

• Perform bladder scanning

• Remove sutures and staples

• Apply and remove casts under provider direction

• Read negative TB skin test results and refer positive screenings to nursing staff

• Perform point-of-care diagnostic testing

• Provide patients with written instructions regarding procedures, medications, and follow-up care

• Provide condition-specific patient education materials as directed by providers

• Administer medications per provider orders

• Assist with prescription medication refills according to department protocols

• Call prescriptions into pharmacies

• Notify patients of prescription refills

• Document medication-related actions within the EMR

• Maintain competencies in point-of-care testing, equipment handling, and specialty training

• Conduct medication administration

• Communicate lab results to patients via phone

• Order and maintain medical supplies

• Perform ear lavage procedures

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $18.33per hour - $29.69per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
