The Office of the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning (OVPTL) promotes students' academic and future success through campus and community partnerships. The Office oversees 3 divisions that provide services to the campus community to fulfill this mission - the Division of Undergraduate Education, the Division of Teaching Excellence and Innovation, and the Division of Summer Session.

Your Role on the Team

Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Development, Education Initiatives, the Assistant Director of Development engages in $250,000 of annual fundraising at both the annual giving and major gift level, provides project management, and some programmatic administrative support. The scope of responsibilities includes: qualification, cultivation, and solicitation of new and existing donors; donor engagement; meeting metrics; development and coordination of fundraising programs; council management; development of collateral material; presentations; newsletters; stewardship; and coordination of leadership meetings. The incumbent coordinates complex duties involving confidential and sensitive information across a broad scope related to donor relations, annual and major gift fundraising, and public relations. The incumbent is a motivated individual willing to partner with development officers, administration and faculty in priority areas of the identified division or unit to create opportunities for friends, alumni and corporations to give.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

• Working knowledge of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques.
• Working knowledge of the location, its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.
• Working knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc.
• Good written and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies.
• Good organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills. Detail oriented with the ability to apply critical thinking skills to analyze problems and apply effective solutions. Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion and demonstrate independence in identifying complex problems and proposing innovative solutions.
• Skills in maintaining confidentiality.
• Proven ability to use MS Office programs, donor management databases, and familiarity with the Internet to conduct searches.
• Ability to distinguish differences between types of gifts and the giving minimums associated with the various types (annual gift, multi-year commitment, endowed scholarships, endowed chair, planned gift, corporate and foundation relations, etc.)
• Demonstrate a foundation of knowledge regarding the fundraising cycle stages/processes as defined by University Advancement and UCI.
• Demonstrate a clear understanding of UCI policies and procedures, including but not limited to solicitation and acceptance of gifts, alumni and support group policies, and naming policies.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Excellent multitasking and follow-through skills; able to work under pressure managing multiple projects with attention to details.
• Demonstrates strong teamwork by collaborating across departments, communicating clearly, and adapting to diverse perspectives to achieve shared project goals.
• Ability to exemplify excellence through diversity by creating a welcoming and inclusive environment that maximizes the success and inclusion of our UCI community. Ability to work and interact with diverse populations.
• Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
• Driver's License
• 1-3 yearsExperience in a development setting, with marketing tools, and event planning and budgeting.

Driver's License:

• Required to hold a valid drivers license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.

Preferred:

• Skill to develop reports, proposals and external relations materials.
• Working knowledge of Salesforce.
• Knowledge of UCI policies and accounting forms such as invoices, travel vouchers, purchase orders, and check requests.

Special Conditions:

• May work long hours to meet fundraising commitments.
• May be required to drive on occasion to perform the routine or essential job functions.
