Job Title: HVAC Technician Facilities & Refrigeration Systems Job Description

The HVAC Technician supports a manufacturing facility by maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing commercial and industrial HVAC and refrigeration systems. This hands-on role focuses on chillers, rooftop units (RTUs), DX units, heat pumps, and general building maintenance while serving as the on-site HVAC subject matter expert. The technician ensures that facility systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably and participates in an on-call rotation to support critical operations.

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain commercial and industrial HVAC and refrigeration systems.
• Service rooftop units (RTUs), chillers, heat pumps, DX systems, and other cooling equipment.
• Perform refrigerant recovery, charging, leak detection, brazing, and compressor repairs in accordance with regulatory requirements.
• Troubleshoot HVAC electrical systems, including low-voltage controls, sensors, and automation components.
• Diagnose and resolve issues with HVAC controls, Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS), and related automation systems.
• Monitor and optimize HVAC system performance using industry-standard diagnostic tools and methods.
• Conduct preventive maintenance inspections on HVAC and refrigeration equipment and accurately document findings, repairs, and recommendations.
• Support equipment startups, commissioning activities, retrofits, and system upgrades to improve performance and reliability.
• Respond to facility work orders and perform general building and facilities maintenance tasks as needed.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to support effective troubleshooting and repair.
• Communicate maintenance findings, repair status, and recommendations clearly and professionally to leadership and other stakeholders.
• Follow all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements while performing maintenance and repair activities.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to support facility operations and ensure minimal downtime of critical systems.

• High school diploma or GED.
• EPA Section 608 Universal Certification.
• Minimum 3 years of HVAC maintenance and repair experience.
• Experience servicing industrial or commercial HVAC systems.
• Strong understanding of refrigerant systems, compressors, and HVAC mechanical components.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
• Working knowledge of HVAC electrical systems and controls.
• Ability to safely troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Hands-on experience with troubleshooting and maintaining RTUs, chillers, DX units, and heat pumps.
• Proficiency in performing refrigerant recovery, charging, leak detection, brazing, and compressor repairs.
• Ability to diagnose and resolve issues with low-voltage control circuits and sensors.

• 5+ years of chiller experience, including equipment up to 300 tons.
• Experience working with HVAC systems ranging from 150200 tons.
• Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS) and HVAC automation systems.
• Technical or vocational HVAC training from an accredited program.
• NATE, HVAC Excellence, or manufacturer-specific HVAC certifications.
• Experience with equipment commissioning, retrofits, and system startups.
• Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
• General electrical maintenance experience in a facilities or building maintenance setting.
• Broad facilities maintenance experience supporting a manufacturing or industrial environment.

This role operates in a manufacturing facility with a focus on commercial and industrial HVAC and refrigeration systems, including large chillers (up to 300 tons), rooftop units (RTUs), DX units, heat pumps, and associated controls. Work involves both indoor and outdoor environments, mechanical rooms, and rooftop settings, with regular use of tools and diagnostic equipment for electrical and mechanical troubleshooting. The position requires adherence to safety, environmental, and regulatory standards and participation in an on-call rotation to support facility operations outside of standard working hours. The technician works closely with facilities and maintenance teams, using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), building automation systems (BAS/BMS), and technical documentation to plan and execute work efficiently.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Joseph, MO.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
