Position Summary

The Assistant Bakery Manager supports the Bakery Manager in overseeing daily bakery operations, ensuring exceptional customer service, product quality, food safety compliance, and department profitability. This position assists in managing inventory, merchandising, production planning, associate development, and operational execution while helping to maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming bakery department.

Key Responsibilities Department Operations

• Assist in directing day-to-day bakery department operations.
• Support execution of sales plans, production schedules, and merchandising programs.
• Ensure bakery products are prepared, packaged, displayed, and rotated according to company standards.
• Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering to maintain proper stock while minimizing shrink.
• Help coordinate production to meet customer demand and seasonal sales opportunities.

Customer Service

• Provide outstanding customer service and create a positive shopping experience.
• Assist customers with product selection, special orders, and bakery-related inquiries.
• Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
• Promote bakery products through suggestive selling and product knowledge.

Merchandising & Sales

• Maintain attractive, fully stocked displays that support sales growth.
• Ensure pricing, signage, and promotional displays are accurate and properly executed.
• Support implementation of seasonal, holiday, and promotional merchandising plans.
• Monitor sales trends and communicate opportunities for improvement.

Food Safety & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, health, and company operating standards.
• Maintain department cleanliness, organization, and equipment sanitation.
• Monitor product freshness, quality, and code dating.
• Follow and enforce safe work practices to reduce accidents and workplace injuries.

Leadership & Team Development

• Assist with training, coaching, and developing bakery associates.
• Provide direction and support to team members during daily operations.
• Help maintain a positive work environment that promotes teamwork and accountability.
• Support department scheduling and labor management initiatives.
• Serve as acting department leader in the Bakery Manager's absence.

Financial Performance

• Assist in controlling department expenses, shrink, and inventory levels.
• Support initiatives designed to improve sales and profitability.
• Monitor productivity and operational efficiency.
• Help achieve departmental goals related to sales, labor, and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications Required

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous bakery, food service, retail, or grocery experience.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
• Basic understanding of bakery production, food handling, and merchandising practices.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred

• Supervisory or leadership experience in a bakery, grocery, or retail environment.
• Knowledge of inventory management, ordering, and labor planning.
• Familiarity with food safety and sanitation regulations.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of up to 50 pounds.
• Repetitive use of hands and arms for bakery production and packaging tasks.
• Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and kneel throughout the workday.
• Ability to work in refrigerated areas and around bakery equipment.
