Call/Weekends: No call required, yes weekends

Position Overview:

Henry Ford Health System is seeking a contingent Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our General Surgery team at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital. This night shift position focuses on providing comprehensive inpatient coverage for surgical services, including patient assessments, treatment planning, care coordination, inpatient consultations, emergency department consultations, and management of patients at a Level III Trauma Center. The APP will work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment alongside surgeons, advanced practice providers, consultants, residents, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure high-quality, efficient patient care. Responsibilities include evaluating acute surgical conditions, developing and implementing treatment plans, facilitating transitions of care, providing patient and family education, and performing procedures consistent with training, experience, and credentialing. This contingent role offers 12-hour night shifts, no call requirements, and the opportunity to practice with a high degree of clinical autonomy while caring for a diverse surgical patient population in a supportive hospital-based environment.

Qualifications:

• 2 years of Surgery experience as an APP required
• NP or PA graduate from an accredited program
• Current (or in-process) Michigan licensure
• National certification (ANCC, AANP, or NCCPA)
• BLS required; ACLS required (or obtained after hire)

Credentials:

Education & Training

Physician Assistant (PA): Completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)

Nurse Practitioner (NP): Completion of a Nurse Practitioner program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)

Licensure

Current licensure as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan, or in the process of applying (proof of application required).

Certification

PA: Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

NP: National certification by a certification body recognized by the State of Michigan

(e.g., ANCC, AANP)

Required Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) required
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required (may be obtained after hire)

DEA / Controlled Substance Licensure

• PA: DEA and Michigan Controlled Substance License (CSL) required through credentialing
• NP: DEA registration required through credentialing; NPs do not hold a Michigan CSL and will use their Michigan license number during the application process
