Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities Performs installation, configuration, migration, and maintenance of assigned technology. Manages backend system/application environment and ongoing operations. Troubleshoots software and/or hardware issues/failures and resolves alerts and performs remediation activities. Determines migration and upgrade impacts and diagnose/resolve complex technology/application errors. Assesses software patches and creates a recommended patch list with a logical explanation in terms of compliance. Develops and optimizes pre- and post-patching processes to ensure proper implementation without outages. Scores each patch based on risks and opportunities to prioritize; identifies patches valuable to the organization. Coordinates patch schedules with other teams and communicates project and operational metrics. Assists in developing action plans, schedules, budgets, status and metrics reports, and other communications to improve patch management. Creates deployment patches and packages using tools such as SCCM and WSUS. Automates IT processes using modern scripting languages and other automation tools. Develops processes and procedures related to systems/application administration. Creates new and updates existing OS images for systems. Resolves tickets escalated by the support operations center. Monitors relevant IT facilities, services, and systems to maintain 24x7 service operation uptime under direction of engineering teams. Builds software deployment packages and maintains endpoint and server environments and processes. Maintains the Configuration Item database within the service management platform and generates accurate system baselines. Maintains strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows, MacOS and Windows 10 systems in an enterprise environment. Implements, operates and supports endpoint management systems for system builds, software deployment, inventory management, endpoint protection and encryption using SCCM and McAfee. Tests patches in a non-production environment to avoid business outages based on lab results. Assists in patch and vulnerability management ensuring compatibility with business needs and objectives. Researches, evaluates, develops, designs and implements patch remediation designs and standards following industry best practices. Develops and implements patch and vulnerability remediation processes including package creation, testing and deployment. Performs after-hours activities as needed for the environment and technologies. Ensures all clients receive latest definitions and investigates all breaches. Ensures that all clients and servers have the latest security patches and hotfixes. Required Knowledge, Skills and Competencies Experience with programming languages preferred (JavaScript, PowerShell, Python, XML, and .Net). Managing/monitoring/configuring/troubleshooting. Security and capacity management and process automation and improvement. A solid understanding of industry best practices for Patch Management; experience mapping business processes to best practices. Excellent competency with patch management and other patching tools. Proficiency in scripting of packaged installation of patches, software and configuration changes. Expert knowledge of Microsoft System Center Configuration and Operation Manager. Demonstrated experience in a Systems Administration role supporting Microsoft Windows, Linux and VMware. Exceptional knowledge of Microsoft Server 2012, 2016 and 2019. MS365 Enterprise Administrator Expert certification with a focus on software deployments, packaging and patching with security in mind. A+; Server+ and Network+ certified. Preferred: Advanced knowledge of SCCM and McAfee. Strong understanding of Internet/IP technologies including routing, switching, sub-netting, and network/security concepts. Project management experience. Working knowledge of ITIL v3 framework (certification preferred). Experience with database server administration and technologies. Ability to self-manage and prioritize multiple projects with aggressive due dates. Excellent understanding of network, system and application security. Comprehensive storage knowledge with various shared storage technologies and related backup strategies. Industry and Work Experience 7 years of experience in progressively complex IT technical roles within an enterprise environment. 5 years of experience working with LAN technology. 7 years of experience implementing/managing patch management, software deployment and endpoint security.
