Student Nurse - Emergency Services

University Hospitals Portage Medical Center located in Portage, Ohio is a 33-bed facility, including 11 Super-Track stations, have the shortest wait times for any trauma center in northeast Ohio. The Nursing Assistant II (NA II) is an entry-level position specifically designed for current nursing students aiming to enrich their preparation for a nursing career. Under the guidance of an experienced nurse, you will acquire valuable hands-on experience by providing safe, efficient, age-specific care to patients and families in order to assist them to attain, maintain, regain, and/or sustain optimal health status. The role is designed to build upon the experience gained in the classroom and during clinical rotations.

What can I do as a NAII? NA IIs work under the direction of an RN to provide safe, efficient, age-specific care to patients and families to assist them to attain, maintain, regain, and/or sustain optimal health status. Responsibilities include:

  • Direct patient care delivery, including, but not limited to: ADLs/hygiene, Vital signs, I&O, Bladder scanning, EKG, Glucometer & other point of care testing (where applicable) and Restraints
  • Communication and documentation of interventions and observations
  • Participation in quality improvement process
  • Involved in learning and self-improvement
  • Initiates and maintains a positive relationship with patients/customers and coworkers

Qualifications Education Requirements Enrollment in a Diploma RN, Associate, Bachelor or Master's degree of Nursing Successful completion of a hands-on, direct patient care clinical through a Registered Nurse Program Most up-to-date transcripts must be uploaded with application Note: Education verification will be required upon receiving a job offer. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience on a related unit or specialty in a practicum, internship or STNA/PCNA/NAII is preferred Qualifications External -was written when started the new way of NA II's Experience/Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of nursing process and practice. Successful completion of a Nursing Fundamentals course required. Special Skills, Equipment: Uses a wide variety of technical equipment to meet patient needs and prescribed medical therapies (i.e. stethoscope, thermometers, glucometers, and electronic monitoring devices). Excellent communication skills. Education: Current enrollment in an accredited A.D.N. nursing program required. Current enrollment in a BSN nursing program preferred.
