The City of Fort Collins Recreation Department createsexceptional programs to serve an exceptional community. Our summer camp programCamp FunQuest is an opportunity for children to learn new skills, find newpassions, stay active, and connect with their peers and others in thecommunity. Lead Counselors and Counselor Aides in our licensed childcareprograms are responsible for working alongside the Sr. Recreation Coordinatorsto oversee the on-site, daily operation of programs and the overall planningand implementation of activities for children ages 5-15 years old. Lead Counselorsand Counselor Aides must enjoy spending time with children, creating empoweringactivities, serving as positive role models to the younger generation, and be astrong leader. These positions report to a Sr. Recreation Coordinator. Work Schedule
Lead Counselors and Counselor Aides begin traininghours on May 19. Camp begins on June 2 and ends onAugust 14.
All positions must attend MANDATORY pre-servicestaff training on May 19 - June 1st. Most training hours will takeplace during the evening to accommodate PSD's end of semester schedule. Fulltraining days will be scheduled when applicable and the full training schedulewill be provided during the interview process. Weekly work schedules will varydepending on program needs. Camp program operating hours are M-F,7:30am-5:30pm. Occasional evening hours are required for all staff meetings. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

-Maintain a clean, welcoming, and organized camp environment
-May be required to drive 15 passenger vans to transport children (depending on age)
-Greet children and parents in a friendly manner
-Attend regular staff meetings as scheduled, and communicate often with team members and supervisors
-Creativity in making everything S.I.L.L.Y.!
Lead Counselor
-Lead age-appropriate activities based on weekly themes, children's interests, and group needs while actively engaging and supervising all campers.
-Communicate daily with leadership staff about classroom management and activity/supply needs.
-Observe, document, and share information regarding camper behaviors in a positive manner.
-Keep classroom safe and clean by following program and City policies and procedures, and all County and State rules & regulations.
-Maintain knowledge of participant whereabouts through regular head counts and updating attendance rosters.
Provide direction and guidance to counselor aides, volunteers and/or interns by modeling engagement, active supervision, and positive behavior guidance strategies.
Counselor Aide
-Ability to take and follow direction.
-Remain actively engaged with campers at all times.
-Provide positive and friendly interactions with all participants.
-Assist with classroom cleanliness and supply organization. City Competencies

Lead Counselor
-Minimum age is 18.
-A minimum of 3 months (455 hours) satisfactory and verifiable experience working in licensed childcare programs is required.
Counselor Aide
-Minimum age is 16. Must have informal experience working and/or genuine interest in working with children. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
All positions
-Must pass City background check
-Must receive clearance from state and federal fingerprinting, and child abuse reporting background check.
-CPR and First Aid Certification (or similar introductory certificate) is required prior to working with children.
-Must complete 15 hours of required, provided pre-service trainings prior to working with children.
-A valid driver's license, clean driving record, and ability to satisfactorily complete provided training for driving 15-passenger vans is required for those 20 years and older. Language Skills
Communicate effectively with children, families, co-workers, supervisors, andthe general public. Must be able to effectively give developmentallyappropriate, verbal guidance to children between the ages of 5-15 years. Reasoning Ability
Must possess the ability to solve and implement practical solutions toproblems, to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written,oral, diagram, or schedule form, and to foresee and initiate proactive measuresto ensure program quality, customer service and participant safety.
