Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Registered Nurse Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: One year of professional nursing experience preferred License: Must possess current licensure in the state of employment Certifications: A valid driver's license required Must-Have: Graduate from an accredited college, university, or nursing program with a degree/diploma in nursing. Current licensure in the state of employment. Description: The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care. This includes executing Licensed Independent Provider's orders, dispensing and administering medications, and assisting Licensed Independent Providers in examinations and treatment of patients. The RN applies nursing and supervisory techniques required in the care and treatment of inmates/residents. They perform all technical and clinical procedures within the scope of their education and licensure. The RN attends sick calls with the physician to see inmates/residents, prepare a list of those to be examined, and prepare the examining room and equipment. They operate pill call, dispense medication, and document as required by applicable policies and procedures. In emergencies, the RN calls the Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders. They examine and assess new inmates/residents with illnesses or injuries. If necessary, the RN refers inmates/residents to the emergency room or other appropriate healthcare facilities. They perform emergency procedures as needed and notify Licensed Independent Providers for treatment orders. The RN assists in coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel. They monitor inmate/resident inpatient hospitalizations for early releases whenever appropriate. The RN provides guidance, supervision, and monitors the nursing care provided by licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff. They maintain a good working relationship with facility staff, nursing staff, and outside provider agencies. The RN utilizes established corporate policies and procedures in decision-making while exercising sound independent judgment. Regular evaluation of the provision of medical services is conducted to prevent inappropriate use or duplication. The RN ensures absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records. They assist with the review of medical files to ensure all provided services are documented. The RN closely monitors all potential catastrophic illnesses. They audit pharmacy use for adherence to formulary, as directed. Compliance with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances, is mandatory. Observation and recording of inmate/resident behavior is essential. The RN inspects the medical unit for items that could be used as contraband and securely stores or safely disposes of supplies and equipment. Health counseling and health education are provided on an individual or group basis, as required. The RN assists in preparing and maintaining various standard records, reports, and logs using appropriate grammar. They read, analyze, comprehend, and interpret medical and technical procedures, regulations, and documents. The RN processes and responds to lawsuits and may attend court hearings when necessary. They facilitate accreditation of the medical program by providing the required level of efficiency and appropriate medical services. Preparation and dissemination of safety and accident reports are required by policies and procedures. The RN takes appropriate action in cases of serious and unusual incidents and emergencies.
