Job Summary
The Academic Lab Instructor Assistant supports instructional delivery in lab, classroom, and applied
learning environments for the technical and workforce programs at the Advanced Technology Center.
This position is responsible for assisting faculty by performing routine instruction-related support
services such as maintaining an organized, safe, and effective instructional setting that promotes
student engagement, skill development, and academic success. The Academic Lab Instructor Assistant
may assist with hands-on instruction, lab activities, student support, academic documentation, and
program operations as assigned.
This position works collaboratively with faculty, department leadership, and academic administration
to support student learning, instructional continuity, and program quality. Responsibilities may
include assistance with recruitment, student engagement, instructional preparation, equipment and
lab oversight, and other duties that contribute to the success of academic and workforce programs.
Evening hours, weekend activities, travel between campuses, or participation in special events may
be required depending on program needs. Work is closely supervised, with limited opportunity for
independent action or decision-making, and consists of routine, well-defined, specific instructions to
achieve expectations.
The Academic Lab Instructor Assistant will be directly responsible to the Dean of Workforce,
Technical, and Community Education Programs. Some authorities of the Dean will be delegated to the
Department Chair, with whom the instructor will work cooperatively in the best interest of the college
and its students.
Nature of Work
Duties may include assisting with instruction, student advising support, recruitment and retention
activities, professional development, college and community service, committee participation,
curriculum support, assessment activities, and other responsibilities assigned by the academic dean,
department chair, or supervisor. The Academic Lab Instructor Assistant helps facilitate instructional
activities in lab-based, classroom-based, and experiential learning settings while supporting faculty
and students in achieving program and course outcomes.

Performs other functions as required or assigned. Also complies with all Policies and Standards.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Instructional and Lab Support
• Assist faculty with instructional delivery in lab, classroom, and skills-based learning
environments.
• Support hands-on demonstrations, guided practice, and student learning activities aligned
with program or course outcomes.
• Help maintain a safe, organized, and effective learning environment consistent with
institutional and program expectations.
• Assist with preparation, setup, monitoring, and general oversight of labs, equipment,
materials, and instructional spaces.
• Reinforce safety procedures, proper equipment uses, and professionalism in instructional
settings.
Academic Support Duties
• Maintain accurate records related to attendance, participation, student progress, and other
required documentation.
• Assist with preparation of instructional materials, assignments, and activities that support
course objectives and student learning outcomes.
• Support faculty with assessment-related tasks, including the administration and
documentation of quizzes, exams, skills evaluations, or other learning measures as assigned.
• Help ensure student evaluations and other required academic processes are completed in
accordance with college procedures.
• Follow catalog descriptions, course standards, program requirements, and institutional
policies in carrying out assigned duties.
Student Support and Engagement
• Be accessible to students for general academic support, questions, and assistance related to
coursework and skill development.
• Promote a professional, inclusive, and respectful learning environment that encourages
student involvement and participation.
• Provide support to students related to academic success, program expectations, and
appropriate use of college resources.
• When appropriate, assist faculty or department personnel in guiding course sequencing,
program expectations, and student success strategies.
Program and Operational Support
• Assist with recruitment events, student outreach, and promotional activities for academic and
workforce programs.
• Represent the college and program areas positively and professionally to students,
prospective students, and community stakeholders.
• Assist in updating instructional materials, lab procedures, and support processes as needed.
• Help communicate information regarding student services, program expectations, and
available resources.
• Perform other duties as requested by the supervisor in support of instructional and program
operations.
The position may require travel between campuses.
Professional Development
• Participate in required training, compliance activities, and professional development
appropriate to the position.
• Engage in ongoing learning to maintain knowledge, skills, and effectiveness in instructional
support environments.

Experience
In addition to the knowledge/education, the following related work experience is typically required, for this position. An equivalent combination of education and recent, related experience may be acceptable.
Commercial Driver - A demonstrated experience of commercial driving experience - Required
FMCSA - Familiarity with FMCSA Entry-level driver training (ELDT) standards - Required
LMS Systems - Proficiency in using or learning college LMS systems (Brightspace, Blackboard, Canvas, etc) - Preferred
Teaching - Prior teaching or training experience in commercial driving - Preferred
